Get Ready! 2012 Reading Challenges

I know it’s not 2012 just yet, but everyone is starting to get their reading challenges in order and prepared for the shotgun start on January 1st.  So I’m announcing the ones that LE will be sponsoring/hosting for 2012.

For the fourth year, LE will again host the New Author Challenge.  Nothing is changing with the challenge and I’ve kind of given up on the mini-challenges for now.  Maybe I’ll be able to talk one of the girls into spear heading them for 2012.  However, nothing else is changing and here are the guidelines:

  1. The challenge will run from January 1st through December 31st.
  2. Since this is an author challenge, there is no restriction on choosing your novels. They can definitely be from other challenges. However, the authors must be new to you and, preferably from novels.  Anthologies are a great way to try someone new, but only a third of your new authors can be from anthologies.
  3. I want this to be an easy challenge, so you can pick to do either 15, 25 or 50 new authors.  It all depends on how fast you read and how adventurous you want to be.  For me, I’m trying another 50 new authors.  If you reach your goal halfway through the year, don’t stop.  Any new author you try can be added to Mr. Linky.  We all want to know about your new experience.
  4. After reading your new author, write your review and then come back here and add your link to Mr. Linky.  Make sure you include your name and the author, but adding the title is completely up to you.
  5. Bloggers or Non-Bloggers alike are welcome

Here is where a change is occurring.  I’m starting a new reading challenge for 2012 and at the moment it’s going to be a one time deal.  However, I could be talked into doing it again in 2013 depending on how well it turns out.  But let’s get through 2012 before I start making plans for 2013.

I am a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon’s OUTLANDER series and I still have not read An Echo in the Bone. It’s been out for a year now and I even own two copies, but it’s gotten buried under other books.  An Echo in the Bone is the seventh novel in the series and I haven’t read any of the Outlander novels since A Breath of Snow and Ashes came out in 2005.  So I’m really thinking I want to re-read them.  Plus, there are still the Lord John novels that have come out and I’ve only read one of those. The eighth novel, Written in My Heart’s Own Blood, will be coming out soon and I can’t be the only one who wants to re-read this fabulous series.

So for 2012, I’m hosting the Outlander Reading Challenge.  Here are the details:

  1. The challenge will run from January 1st through December 31st.
  2. The goal is to read all 7 Outlander novels as well as all 4 Lord John novels, listed below, or as many as you can or want to do. (I don’t like inflexible reading challenges, so don’t stress out if you don’t think you’ll be able to get through them all).
  3. Once a month, we’ll get together and chat about where and what we’ve read (more details about this to come).
  4. After reading one of the novels, write your review and then come back to the main challenge page and add your link to Mr. Linky.  Make sure you include your name and which title you’ve read.
  5. Bloggers or Non-Bloggers alike are welcome.  You don’t have to have a site to participate. You can link up via Facebook, GoodReads or even Amazon if you’d like.

Dragonfly in Amber Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade

I haven’t done up the sign-up pages yet, this is just the announcement that they’ll be coming. I’ll get those pages up something this week (or later tonight after we’re done getting the new family pics done) as well as the buttons.  Speaking of which, I need to go get ready.

So get prepared!  The New Author and Outlander reading challenges are coming in 2012.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I, too, love DG! I’ve been wanting to re-read the series, and vowed to read through An Echo in the Bone. I got it when it first came out, started it, and was so bored I never picked it up again. But I promised my friend that I would read it all the way though before the next book came out. I cannot wait for this challenge to start, and I thank you for it.

However, I do NOT like the Lord John books, even though i own them all. And I own very few books, lol. I will try again to read them, but I make no promises :)
