BE: Parasol Protectorate/Alexia Tarabotti Discussion TONIGHT!

GCarriger-SoullessSteampunk has really been making a name for itself lately and one series I keep hearing about is Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate/Alexia Tarabotti. The first book, Soulless, has gotten rave reviews and even Larissa keeps telling me I really need to read this series. I’m not really sure why I haven’t read them yet; I even bought the first three when they were on sale this summer as an ebook bundle (The Parasol Protectorate). So I’m a little behind, and since spoilers just make me want to read a series more, Larissa and Bea (from Beas Book Nook) are going to enlighten me as to what I’ve been missing.

Are you a fan of the series? What is it that you like about Alexia Tarabotti? What is going on with her and Lord Maccon? Have you been wanting to talk about this very hot series? If so, then join Larissa (from Larissa’s Bookish Life), Bea (from Beas Book Nook) and I while we discuss this amazing series at Talk Shoe on TONIGHT at 9pm EST.

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire — and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

Warning: The last book, Heartless, has been out since July, so we will be focusing on the series. Meaning, spoilers are going to happen. We’ll try to keep the hardcore spoilers to a minimum, but there are no guarantees.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
