Demons Like It Hot by Sidney Ayers

SAyers-Demons Like It HotIt can take just one element to make a book not click; and when that happens, it’s hard not to think about that when writing a review.  Knowing that the one element doesn’t make the book, doesn’t make writing the review any easier either, especially considering the one element can interest someone into reading it.  So, I’m going to take it easy on Sidney Ayers’ Demons Like It Hot by simply saying I did not like it and couldn’t finish it.

Serah SanGermano runs a successful catering company in a Midwestern town. After she inadvertently helped her friend unleash a legion of demons, she’s been trying to hide her own newly discovered powers. Matthias Ambrose, a mysterious demon mercenary sent to protect her, has his own secret- one that will embroil them both in the scandal from hell.

Demons Like it Hot and this series has a lot going for it in the imagination department.  I don’t typically read books on demons, and have no references to really base my opinion on, so reading about cute and sexy demons is totally new to me.  I enjoyed this version, much better than the weird gargoyle type creatures that I’ve read about in the past.

But she lost me with a talking Scottish cat who smokes cigars.  Though an amazing imagination to come up with that kind of character, it’s a bit much for me.  I couldn’t stop giggling at that scene, and saying ‘Come on seriously?’ over and over.  I tried to read more after that, but couldn’t.  I couldn’t take the story seriously anymore, and nothing up until that point had sparked much interest.   I will say, I’m slightly curious about Serah, simply because there’s so much mystery behind her. You know she’s something different and yet she’s trying to hide it from everyone for some reason.   Sadly, I’m not curious enough to find out.  I’m sure there are some really neat scenes in Demons Like It Hot but that cat killed it for me.

Just because I didn’t like Demons Like it Hot, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a shot.  Who knows, you may enjoy that strange cat, LOL.

  1. Wow… I admit, I read this post b/c I thought this book was going to be something different, but based on the post, not so intrigued. I’ll visit the site & see if there’s an extended summary or excerpt to really give it a chance.
