Black Friday: Stephanie Julian

Black FridayBlack Friday is here and we’re discussing the season with Stephanie Julian’s Lucy Aster from How to Worship a Goddess.

HE’S EXACTLY WHAT SHE’S ALWAYS WANTED…

Lucy was once the beloved Goddess of the Moon. These days the goddesses of the Etruscan pantheon are all but forgotten. The only rituals she enjoys now are the local hockey games, where one ferociously handsome player inflames her divine blood…

AND SHE UNLEASHES HIM LIKE A FORCE OF NATURE…

Brandon Stevenson is one hundred percent focused on the game, until he looks up and sees a celestial beauty sitting in the third row. A man could fall hard for a distraction like that…

SJulian-How to Worship a GoddessLucy Aster may be the Etruscan Goddess of the Moon but like any other mother of sons, she has the same problem most of us do—what do we get our children for Christmas.

Now, you might ask, why would an ancient goddess celebrate a Christian holiday? Well, the original roots of the holiday go back to ancient times and since the Etruscans have had to blend into society over the past two millennia, they’ve adopted some of the traditions. Of course, they’ve made them their own but the tradition of gift giving is universal.

So what would Lucy get for her sons? As the mother of two teen sons, I can’t tell you how hard it is to shop for guys. When I ask them to give me some suggestions, they shrug. Very helpful.

Lucy’s sons are particularly hard to buy for. Tivr, her oldest, is the God of the Moon and he can turn into a wolf. What could he possibly need? Same goes for Caeles, her youngest. He runs Lucy’s bar and handles her finances. He’s brilliant with numbers so he doesn’t need money.

Of course, Lucy has a little secret she doesn’t want anyone to know. She actually loves to shop for her sons. She loves finding that one gift they wouldn’t buy for themselves. And if Lucy’s going shopping, she’s going to King of Prussia to the Court and Plaza so she can buy everything she needs in one trip.

For Ty, she’s going to hit Hot Topic. Lucy’s musical tastes run more to jazz and standards. She’s not into modern rock like Alkaline Trio and Avenged Sevenfold but Ty, well, he loves Avenged Sevenfold. And Disturbed, Slipknot and Volbeat and he’s been known to get a little old school with Kansas and Led Zeppelin. She’s going to ask the tattooed and pierced store clerk to show her the newest band shirts. Then she’s going to cross to the other side of the store and pick up a Hello Kitty shirt for Catene, one of her wolves. Cat will love it. After that, she’ll go to the Levi’s store so she can buy Ty a few new pairs of jeans, maybe a new denim jacket.

After that, she’s going to head to Journeys, where she’ll get Caeles a few new pairs of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. Yes, he has an entire collection but they always come out with new ones. Then she’ll head into Hermes to buy him a few new ties and to Brooks Brothers for shirts. And maybe a new suit. Or two.

At the Apple store, she’ll pick up new iPhones for the wolves who work for her. When she passes Tiffany’s, she’ll stop to pick up the sapphire earrings that caught her eye for her sister goddess, Tessa. And the platinum handcuff earrings for Nortia. She’ll love them. And Amity, Goddess of Health, will adore the simplicity of the heart-shaped yellow diamond pendant.

For Cole, king of the werewolves, she’ll pick up whatever new gadgets they have in Williams-Sonoma. Cole loves to cook.

And since she’s there, she might as well stroll through Elie Tahari and pick up a few new dresses for her sets at the bar.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
