Black Friday Contest: Soul Screamers Volume 1 by Rachel Vincent

Black FridayWhat is a Black Friday without a few gifts and surprises? Rachel Vincent wanted to be here, but due to deadlines (and we totally want more stories, right?), she was unable to participate. However, she’s sent along this fabulous beauty instead: Soul Screamers Volume 1. We are giving away X copies of Soul Screamers Volume 1 and I know you want it. *grin*

RVincent-Soul Screamers Vol 1It starts with a scream….

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Vincent’s compelling Soul Screamers series keeps getting better—here, for the first time, the original stories are compiled into one special volume….

My Soul to Lose
—The prequel: never before in print!—

Kaylee is just your average girl shopping at the mall with friends—until a terrified scream bursts from her that cannot be stopped. Taken to a hospital ward, will she be able to save her mind—and her life?

My Soul to Take
She’s always felt different, but now Kaylee discovers why. The screams that cannot be denied mean that someone near her will die—and she can never save them. Because saving one life means taking another….

My Soul to Save
Going on dates with her boyfriend is still new to Kaylee. But when the singer of the band they’re seeing dies onstage and Kaylee doesn’t scream, she knows something crazy is going on. Soon she discovers souls can indeed be sold….

Meet Rachel Vincent!

Rachel VincentRachel Vincent is the author of the Shifters series, about a werecat named Faythe Sanders, who is learning to define her own role in her family and fighting to claim a place in her Pride.

Rachel’s young adult series, Soul Screamers, debuted on August 1, 2009. My SOUL TO TAKE is the first in the series, about a teenage bean sidhe (banshee) trying to balance a normal high school experience with the terrifying, hidden world she’s just discovered. A new Soul Screamers short Story, Never to Sleep, will be available on January 1, 2012.

Blood Bound (Unbound, book 1), the first in Rachel’s new adult paranormal series, debuted September 1, 2011.

A new resident of San Antonio, Rachel Vincent has a BA in English and an overactive imagination, and she consistently finds the latter to be more practical. She shares her workspace with two black cats (Kaci and Nyx) and her # 1 fan. Rachel is older than she looks-seriously-and younger than she feels, but remains convinced that for every day she spends writing, one more day will be added to her lifespan.

Contest Time!

Rachel is giving away a copy of Soul Screamers Volume 1. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Banshees are not your typical supernatural to be found; what other uncommon creatures have you found stories of? Can you recommend another series/novel that features a banshee? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

All Black Friday contests will remain open until December 31st at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have. Have you checked out the other Black Friday contests yet? Check out the Master List to see all the Black Friday giveaways

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. The obly banshee I can think of is from the X-Men comics. Yes, I read comics. He was also in the newest X-Men movie.

  2. I honestly cannot remember reading about Banshees in any other series, one of the things I love most about Soul Screamers is the originality. But I have read about Sirens in Ripple by Mandy Hubbard, Harpies in Airborne by Constance Sharper, and gods in Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout. All great reads as well :)

  3. I can’t think of any other books featuring banshees. I have read a couple of books with gargoyles in them.

  4. Love the idea of banshees! I so remember watching this one cartoon where they had an encounter with a banshee! She was kinda freaky for a cartoon!

  5. I can’t think of a story with Banshees…. but I recently read “Tangled Tides” and that features mermaids, gorgons, sirens, and selkies!

  6. I can’t think of any other novels with banshees. I think that’s what interests me about these novels. I thought Fire in Kristen Cashore’s book of the same name was an original creature. She was a “humam monster” and people were unhinged by her beauty.

  7. I can’t say that I have read a book about banshees. Most of the books I read are your typical paranormal creatures; vampires, werewolves, warlocks, angels, faeries, ect. However, Paranormalcy by Kiersten White has some pretty interesting paranormals. Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. An uncommon supernatural that I just read about was the revenants in Amy Plum’s Die For Me. Another series with banshees in it are Erica Hayes’s Shadowfae Chronicles and Melissa Marr’s Wickedly Lovely series.

  9. I love to read stories starring unusual creatures. In The Hollow Kingdom by Clare B. Dunkle the hero was a goblin, which I loved. I am working on a story of my own where the main character is a pixie. :) Thank you for the giveaway!

  10. I find there are a lot of unusual paranormal creatures I would like to meet including banshees and goblins. I haven’t encountered them before.

  11. I like Nicole Peeler’s Jane True series, she has some unusual creatures, including selkies and a barghest (shapeshifting dog). I can’t think of any other books that feature a banshee, that’s why I want to read this series, it’s very unique. Keri Arthur had a sea dragon in her Destiny Kills book, that was pretty unusual too.

  12. Well Kim Harrison’s book White Witch, Black Curse has a banshee in it. And some other uncommon supernatural species I’ve found in books are the golems in DD Barant’s book series and the Tairen Soul’s in CL Wilson’s books.

  13. I can’t think of any books that have banshees in them, but I’ve got a book on my wish list by Karen Kincy called Other, that features a heroine that is a half-Pooka. I don’t know exactly what that is – some kind of shapeshifter. The book also has dryads and a kitsune, which is a Japanese fox shifter, so I’m looking forward to reading it.

  14. I know of one other banshee and it was a an adult romance book. I believe it was a samhain book.

  15. I’ve rcently read about a Goblin King, I read Stone Cold Seduction which was about gargoyles, shadow elves, phoenix, and oracles. It was a good read. Dragon Bound has a unicorn in it, that was a good read! The Switched trilogy has trolls and was a good YA read! I love the Mercy Thompson series which has some of everything in it! Thank you for the giveaway! Happy Holidays!

  16. I haven’t read any books with a banshee in it, can’t say that I can think of any either.

Thank You for the Giveaway and Happy Holidays :)

  17. The only time I’ve actually heard of banshees before was in an episode of Charmed ages and ages ago, and all I can really remember was that one of the sisters started to get turned into one, and they could fly. I’ve probably read about some interesting and unusual supernatural creatures but I can’t really think of anything at the moment! Anything in Supernatural :D

  18. cant say i have read any with a banshee (although i think there is a banshee in my Seanan McGuire series i think.. the queen is part banshee).. but i have read a couple with a Fury (Kasey Mackenzie). selkies (Jane True by Nicole Peeler)..that i found was unusual!

  19. Kim Harrison’s books have banshees in it i think Black Curse has a banshee in it. Oh and the Demonica series have some crazy types of demons in it.

  20. I don’t think I’ve ever read another series that has a banshee as a main character.
I remember reading a series with a fury as a heroine. I think it was pretty unusual.

  21. I can’t think of any other books that I have read which contains banshee, but that’s what’s so great about her SS series, they’re so original!

  22. Oh, I don’t know of any Banshee books besides Rachel’s but I do know a book about a Victorian preternatural (aka souless) [Gail Carriger], another about a species of blood whore [Kristen Painter] and another about a Cerddorion [Nancy Holzner]. Overall, however, it’s not so much the creature an author chooses to bring to life but HOW the author takes a creature, be it vamp, wolf, or banshee, and makes it their own.
