Meet Maria Snyder!
When I was 12, I learned about meteorologists and decided to become one. My visions of chasing tornados didn’t pan out since I was bad at forecasting. Let’s face it, I’m a daydreamer—always have been. I did graduate from Penn State University and was hired as an environmental meteorologist. It’s never a good idea to get caught idle, so I wrote my daydreams down. My first novel was Poison Study and it was published in 2005! I caught the writing bug and Magic Study and Fire Study soon followed. Even though I went on to earn a Masters degree in writing from Seton Hill University, I never lost my fascination with storms, which is evident in my Glass Series (Storm Glass, Sea Glass and Spy Glass). The environmentalist in me comes out in Inside Out. Trella’s world is contained and they must reuse and recycle everything. One thing they got right in one otherwise messed-up world! I love my new job. Where else can you take fencing lessons, learn to ride a horse, study martial arts, learn to pick locks, take glass blowing classes and get a tour of a maximum security prison and call it work? I’ll give you a hint—not working as a meteorologist :)

Sounds to me like she needs a horse so that she doesn’t have to walk everywhere and can cover more ground.
She should get a journel so she can record all her experiences. Many years down the line she can look back at it and see everything’s been through.
I think Avry could use some nice traveling supplies, like good food to eat on the trail and sturdy shoes and clothing.

Avry could get a simple dress that does not get worn out, dirty, torn or ugly in any way. It needs no washing and it would keep her warm at night. It would be the perfect dress for travel and adventure.

I’d get her night vision goggles or a cloak with a warming spell so she never has to make a fire that others would see,
I’d give her some good winter gear and lots of spices to season her food.

First, I can’t believe the author is a meteorologist, that’s so cool, even if you weren’t great at forecasting. I’m a geographer and always loved meteorology and natual hazards.
Anyway, for the contest, I’d go with a weapon of some sort like a knife/dagger, something that’s easy to use and conceal.
ok you said meteorologist i think of storm from X-men, you say present…still thinking of X-men more specifically wolverine and his awesome hand things but we could make hers bracelets which when activated become full gloves with spikes or something cool like that

A bag similar to the one Hermione carried in Deathly Hallows. It’s small and light, but can carry whatever she needs.
A magic crystal ball! It would come in handy she would just shake it like a Magic 8 ball (or those snow globes) and she would see the answer to her questions and what will happen in the near future.
