Bourbon Street: Arianna Skye/Sidney Ayers

AAD Burbon StreetDid you see the latest AAD Author visiting Larissa’s Bookish Life yesterday with her own After Dark on Bourbon Street story? You should totally go read it…like now.

After Dark on Bourbon Street

I know you’re expecting Arianna Skye. Unfortunately, Arianna’s only book Wings of Desire is out of print and she’s frantically rushing to re-release it. The expected date should be sometime in April.

I’m the alternate personality of Arianna. I write paranormal romance with a snarky and humorous twist. The Demons Unleashed series of paranormal romances is set in a fictional Midwestern town—which oddly resembles my own hometown. I assure you, there are no demons here—that I know of!

Like Bronwyn Green, I’m a Michigan girl who’s never been to NOLA. I’ve imbibed in a few Mardi Gras celebrations here though. I’m fairly certain it doesn’t compare to the real thing.

In my recent release, Demons Like It Hot Serah SanGermano is a caterer who recently discovers she’s a Pure-Blood, which means she has an angelic ancestry. This makes her able to sense the presence of Infernati, the bad demons. She also is a recovering shopaholic so I think she’d have a most interesting time in NOLA.

So here goes:
—————–
Wow. So many shops, so little time. Serah’s mind reeled as she pushed her way through the crowds. Then again, she didn’t come here to shop. She came here to save NOLA from the wrath of the evil Infernati—as if Katrina hadn’t done enough.

Madam Veronica’s Voodoo Palace.

The name just screamed cheesy gypsy wares. Yet, an odd curiosity flowed through her veins. She scanned through the heavily beaded and soused crowds and glanced down at her watch—the same one her grandmother had given her. The same one that had helped her accept her destiny. Quarter after seven. She wasn’t meeting the other Paladins for another fifteen minutes. A little window-shopping wouldn’t hurt.

With an eager breath, Serah pulled open the weathered wooden door and stepped inside. The mixture of spices and fragrance mingled in the air. She glanced around the quaint shop. Voodoo Dolls of every shape, size and color stood on display—Some with straw, some constructed with branches and twigs. She reached out to pick up one that would put Raggedy-Ann to shame. The red yarn hair and onyx beaded eyes called out to her. Great—she hated when that happened.

“You like?” the woman’s creole voice sang in her ears. No Infernati scent lingered, but evil always had more than one face. Serah spun around.

Standing in the doorway was a tiny, wrinkled and weathered lady, her gray hair tight in a bun. A wide, genuine smile spread across her cheeks.

“I made it for you, Serah.”

“Huh,” Serah mumbled. Perhaps it wasn’t curiosity that had brought her here after. It was fate—something she should be used to by now.

“The doll. You will need it to fight.”

“It’s cloth, not silver.”

The old lady threw her head back in mirthful laughter. “The secret is in the stitching,” she said, holding up a spool of silver thread and a needle. “Blessed by an angel it is. All that is missing is the blood of an old witch. With that she poked the needle to her finger, a tiny drop of blood forming on the tip.

“Umm, that seems kind of unsanitary.”

“Witch’s blood is almost as pure as yours,” the woman said, allowing a few of the drops to fall into a tiny vial. “Funny thought, huh.”

“Honestly, there isn’t much that surprises me anymore.” After all, who would have guessed that demons actually existed, and that some were actually blessed by angels. The Paladin were hell-bent on doing good. Witches and voodoo just added to the ever growing cake.

“Do not worry about sanitary concerns,” she drawled out. The woman reached out and grabbed the doll, pulling open the pouch in the back. She placed the vial inside and snapped it closed. “You are a strong woman, Serah SanGermano. New Orleans is lucky to have you on their side.”

  1. Thanks for the lovely giveaway!

I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans and I’ve always heard about their awesome food! So, I guess I’d love to discover one of those local restaurants that the tourists don’t go :)

  2. I would like to see New Orleans during Mardi Gras and have real cajun food. The Masquerade Ball during the AAD Conference should be hit up.

  3. I would love to discover an actual ghost. While I have been New Orleans multiple times, I have yet to see a ghost…..every time does bring something new. Cannot wait to attend AAD!!!

Make sure to walk the Garden District and shop on Magazine Street.

  4. I’m definitely going to have to try some true creole and Cajun food when I’m there too. Us Northerners can certainly try to recreate that Southern food, but nothing is better than the real thing.

Shelly, funny you should say that. When I was in Philly for AAD 2011, I went on the ghost hunting tour and let’s just say I got some interesting photos!

  5. I don’t know, maybe discovering a cute supernatural would be fun, but besides that a vamp tour and maybe a tour of the Garden District would be good. How about a fantastic cup of coffee and a beignet at Cafe Du Monde would be a good discovery. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
