Bourbon Street: KT Grant (+Contest)

AAD Burbon StreetDid you see the latest AAD Author visiting Larissa’s Bookish Life yesterday with her own After Dark on Bourbon Street story? You should totally go read it…like now.

After Dark on Bourbon Street

When Jackie asked me to take part in the After Dark on Bourdon Street, I was so excited. I’ve never been to New Orleans before and can’t wait to visit one of the best party cities in the United States come August. Did you know that New Orleans is the 46th largest city in the USA with a population of over 1.2 million? New Orleans is world famous for their cuisine, music (birthplace of jazz) and the celebrations and festivals such as Mardi Gras and Jazzfest.

One thing I’ve heard time and again about New Orleans is the dining experience and the food that the city is well known for. If I was going to New Orleans and had to pick one of my characters to join me, it would be Xavier Marks from my latest release, Xavier’s Loving Arms. Xavier loves food and fine dining and knows all the best restaurants and bars to visit.

Xavier and I would start our dining travels in the French Quarter where we would have our pick of restaurants. Since it’s the middle of August and too hot and humid, we would wear the least amount of clothes. (Xavier does have a nice abs and butt). But since we’re both respectable (to a point). Xavier would wear a T-shirt and khaki shorts, while I would wear a sundress and comfortable sandals or flip-flops. The first dish I would have to try is gumbo!

Gumbo is a type of stew served over rice that can be make with seafood, chicken and andouille sausage. For the best gumbo around in New Orleans, we would stop at The Gumbo Shop, located in the French Quarter best known for their seafood okra gumbo.

Next up would be so Po-Boys, a New Orleans staple. The bread is crispy and flaky on the outside, and u soft on the inside. Then you add fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, soft-shell crab, or roast beef smothered in gravy. Top that off with pickles, hot sauce, lettuce, mayo, etc. It’s a feast for the senses! Ye Olde College Inn on Carrolton Ave has a Cheese and Bacon Poboy that sounds too sinful for words!

One of my favorite desserts is bread pudding. I could seriously gorge myself on this tasty spongy bread. The Acme Oyster House has been in business since 1910 and has a bread pudding with Whiskey Sauce. And there’s K-Paul’s that has a bread pudding made with rich custard and baked with raisins and pecans and served with a hard sauce. Their sweet potato pecan pie also sounds divine.

If Xavier and I still have room, we’ll head for an after dinner drink at Arnaud’s for a Pisco Bishop that’s made with Pisco, RubyPort, Ginger Honey Syrup, Lime Juice or a Papa Doble made with Cruzan Rum, Pomegranate Syrup, Grapefruit and Lime Juices.

This is just a small taste of the incredible food and restaurants to visit while in New Orleans. With a man like Xavier by my side as we tour the sites and eat until we can’t move, we’ll have a grand old time.

Contest Time!

Thank you KT Grant for taking the time to stop by Literary Escapism for our Authors After Dark on Bourbon Street event!

KT Grant is giving away a copy of Xavier’s Loving Arms. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Have you been to Bourbon Street? What about New Orleans in general? While we’re at the AAD Conference, where should we hit up? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

In addition to the fabulous prize above, Larissa and I are giving away two $25 ARe gift certificates, so be sure to answer the question.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until February 21st at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’ve never been to New Orleans or to Bourbon Street, but I would love to visit sometime. You should hit the French Quarter with the AAD crowd, at least I would go there :)

  2. So far I’ve never had the chance to visit but I might to so in the future! What I love to see and attend is the Anne Rice Vampire Ball. Since the AAD Conference is not in the right time for it, I would say go on a vampire tour at least!

  3. Never been to either but I’d love to go one day :)

As for the AAD Conference – you could visit the French Quarter!

  4. I’ve been to New Orleans/ Bourbon Street once. It was a great experience! The churches are very cool- those should be visited.

  5. I haven’t been to New Orleans or Bourbon Street but I’d love to visit both. Did you go on a cementary tour? The vampire tour sounds promising as well.
