Bourbon Street: Teresa D’Amario (+Contest)

AAD Burbon StreetDid you see the latest AAD Author visiting Larissa’s Bookish Life yesterday with her own After Dark on Bourbon Street story? You should totally go read it…like now.

After Dark on Bourbon Street

The darkness settled into the streets, despite the streetlights doing their utmost to chase all of the shadows into the deepest, darkest recesses of Bourbon Street. Men and women hurried on their way, laughing despite the heaviness of the summer heat. Hidden within the gloom stood a creature. Not man, nor beast, but a mixture of both.

Ryland was his name. A leader among his kind. An alpha in both presence and attitude. The people rushing through the streets gave him a wide berth, as though sensing the wolf hidden beneath the golden eyes. On his first visit to New Orleans, Ryland was pleased with their discernment, satisfied to slide deeper into the shadows.

He inhaled, letting the scents of the city wash over him. He acknowledged and discarded the scents of the salt water, the fish, and even the scents of both washed and unwashed humans. Those weren’t the ones which interested him.

No, it was something special for which he searched, and with the patience of a true wolf, he took them in and separated, identifying them.

Magick.

Magick covered this city like a heavy cloak of fog, clinging to everyone’s skin and clothes. But it didn’t all smell the same. A scent moved toward him, filtering through the buildings. Light and airy, like the scent of flower petals floating upon the wind. Simple spell casters. He smiled. Spell casters were the most common of magick users, and the least dangerous. They were not the magical creatures he searched for. No, he searched for something darker.

Ryland searched for a darkness that reached it’s grubby fingers into the packs of the Eastern seaboard, damaging the shapeshifters until they no longer worked together, but instead tried to destroy one another. On the strongest of magick could escape the trained senses of the wolven, and that was what brought Ryland to this dark, and muggy part of the world.

The scuffle of footsteps caught Ryland’s attention. He inhaled. There it was. The subtle scent of dark magick. Heavy, like a thick sauce covering a steak. It clung to the approaching female, wrapping about her curves as though a lover. She rounded the corner, and stopped, her dark eyes widening. He did make an impressive site, he knew, with the scar down the side of his face. The delicate toffee color of her skin shone in the street light. She was dressed unlike anything he’d seen before, except on television. Almost like a gypsy from times past.

“Come,” she said at last, motioning toward him. “The answers to all you are seek are this way.”

Ryland arched a brow, and shoved himself away from the brick wall and followed the female. It was time to learn the mysteries of another world. A world where magick ruled, instead of the beast. What he learned, only time would tell, but soon, he’d return home to his mate, answers in his heart. And those who challenged the packs of North Carolina would pay.

With their lives.

Contest Time!

Thank you Teresa for taking the time to stop by Literary Escapism for our Authors After Dark on Bourbon Street event!

Teresa is giving away an ecopy of Dark Succession. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Have you been to Bourbon Street? What about New Orleans in general? While we’re at the AAD Conference, where should we hit up? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

In addition to the fabulous prize above, Larissa and I are giving away two $25 ARe gift certificates, so be sure to answer the question.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until February 21st at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I have never been to New Orleans. I have always wanted to experience Mardi Gras. I also have a weakness for Cajun/Creole food so I’m sure I would over eat if I ever do visit. I’m afraid the closest I’ve ever been to New Orleans was the Port Orleans hotel at Disney World. LOL

  2. I was in Missisppi during Mardi Gras one time, and it was awesome. I’m sooo looking forward just to getting to New Orleans, even though it won’t be Mardi Gras time. Thought I have a fondness for king cakes so looking forward to snarking on one of those. LOL.

  3. I’m so very jealous! I haven’t been to either so, while I can’t recommend a specific place, I can suggest beignets and coffee for breakfast! Know that’s what I’d most look forward to. Have a wonderful time.
