Contest: Faery Tales & Nightmares and A Beautiful Evil

The last book in Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series, Darkest Mercy, came out last year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go back to that wonderful world. Tomorrow, Melissa will be releasing Faery Tales and Nightmares, a collection of stories from the Wicked Lovely universe.

MMarr-Faery Tales and NightmaresDangerous promises and beguiling threats swirl together in a dozen stories of enchantments, dark and light, by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr. Uncanny and unexpected creatures appear from behind bushes, rise from under the seas, or manifest from seasonal storms to pursue the objects of their attention—with amorous or sinister intent—relentlessly.

From the gentle tones of a story-teller’s cadences to the terror of a blood sacrifice, tales of favorite characters from Marr’s Wicked Lovely novels mix with accounts of new characters for readers to fall in love with . . . or to fear.

Lush, seductive, and chilling, Melissa Marr’s stories revel in the unseen magic that infuses the world as we know it.

Tomorrow also happens to be the release day for Kelly Keaton’s second Gods & Monster’s novel, A Beautiful Evil.

KKeaton-Beautiful EvilMyth and mayhem inhabit a richly reimagined New Orleans in this sequel to Darkness Becomes Her.”After the epic graveyard battle at the end of “Darkness Becomes Her,” Ari and her friends know what they’re up against: Ari is facing the Medusa curse and is haunted by the image of what she will become. To make matters worse, the heinous goddess Athena has kidnapped young Violet and is threatening to destroy Ari. Ari, along with the superhot Sebastian, is doing everything she can to learn more about Athena and to get Violet back. But the battle of good and evil is bigger than she realizes, and she’s about to be pulled into a world more horrific than she could ever imagine….

The two have come together to celebrate these releases with a fabulous contest. One lucky reader has the chance to win both of these novels – Faery Tales and Nightmares and A Beautiful Evil – signed by the authors themselves.  Want to know how easy it is to enter?  Keep reading….

Contest Details!

Melissa and Kelly are each giving away one signed copy of Faery Tales and Nightmares and A Beautiful Evil to one lucky reader. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: What is your favorite faery tale? Do you like the Disney version or the more nightmarish original? Is there a movie version that does the tale fabulously? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until February 28th at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. My favorite fairytale is Beauty and the Beast. I do like the Disney versions, but I enjoy the nightmarish originals a lot more. There’s something about them that pulls me in. And I think Beastly the movie that does this fairy tale very well. It’s in modern times, but I still think it still got the point across and the characters did well portraying Belle and the Beast in a modern time they had the same attitude and personality as the characters in the fairytale.

  2. My favorite Fairy tale would have to be Beauty and the Beast. What do I prefer Disney or Grimms… Both really. I love this tale for so many differnt reasons and personally recently I loved the movie Beastly and thought it was a wonderfully done version of the tale.

Thank you so much for doing this giveaway!!

  3. My all time favourite fairy tale has to be Peter and the Wolf! I’ve love that story since I was child and really enjoyed that the recent movie, Red Riding Hood, added in the Peter and the Wolf tale too. But the original has always been, and will always be, my favourite…Just thinking about it has made the music get stuck in my head again :)

  4. My favorite faery tale is Little Red Riding Hood, and I like the original much more than children’s version. I really like the new Red Riding Hood movie, directed by Catherine Hardwicke. I think it tells the tale very well.

  5. I love Disney but also think nightmarish tellings of fairy tales can be good as well.

I adore Beauty and the Beast but, like many other posters, Tangled is my favorite Disney re-telling so far.

However, I can’t wait to see Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, but I just read the stupid studio pushed it back from March of this year to January of next year which is seriously annoying, to say the least.

  6. I like Disney’s retellings over the Grimm originals. Call me crazy, but I don’t like my fairy tales to scare the bejesus out of me. I really loved Disney’s Tangled.

  7. My favourite fairytale of all time is Hansel and Gretel :) I loved how the story was put into Hoodwinked 2. I cannot wait until Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters comes out, i am seeing it for my birthday :) Thank you so much for the giveaway!!

  8. My favorite is Cinderella. I know only the Disney version, so I don’t know if it’s better than the original. I’ve never seen a movie titled Cinderella, but there’s a movie Ever After with Drew Barrymore which follows the tale pretty closely. I love it, it’s one of those I’ve seen many times and enjoyed it every time.

  9. My favorite fairy tale is probably The Little Mermaid or Cinderella. I am most familiar with the Disney version of each, because those were the versions I grew up with. I am perfectly fine with the Grimm’s original of Cinderella, in which the stepsisters mutilate their feet in order to make the slippers fit. I think that it would be okay for children to hear that story, if only to add more reason to dislike the stepsisters/give them more personality. In the Disney version, they mainly just go along with what their mother does, which is what most girls do before leaving the nest, so there is not a major reason for them to be left in the dust when Cinderella marries the prince.
I am unfamiliar with good movie twists of either Cinderella or The Little Mermaid, though I think a real-actor movie of The Little Mermaid could be really cool, especially because there is a major villain in the story.
I do have to suggest some good fairy tale-centered books, while I am here. They include “Phoenix and Ashes” by Mercedes Lackey (Cinderella), “Spindle’s End” by Robin McKinley (Sleeping Beauty) and “Beastly” by Alex Flinn (Beauty and the Beast). “Beastly” has been turned into a movie, as well, but I do not intend to see it because the commercials did not feel particularly true to the book.
Lastly, I am hopeful for the Snow White movie coming out soon, “Mirror, Mirror.”

  10. My favorite fairy tale is the Twelve Dancing Princesses. I don’t think there is a Disney version, or another movie version for that matter. My sisters and I just always read the tale when we were little and then would act it out. We loved to dance. :)

  11. I definitely prefer darker fairy tales over the Disney version. My favorite fairy tales are Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel.

  12. I love all of the fairy tales that I have read. I love the Disney versions, but my absolute favorites are the darker versions of the stories. If I had to pick a favorite fairytale I think it would be Beauty and the Beast or the Little Mermaid.

  13. My favorite faery tale would have to be The Princess Bride. LOVED the book, and the movie was *shock horror* just as good as the book, which is a hard thing to say these days.

  14. My fav fairy tale is little red riding hood. I prefer the nightmarish version not the Disney version. There is a movie out called Red Riding Hood and it does the fairy tale justice. Ilove it. Thanks for the great giveaway!!!!

  15. I like the story of Red Riding Hood and I actually like the dark version that came out in 2011 with Amanda Seyfried.

  16. My favorite fairy tail ever would have to be Peter Pan. I love the idea of being able to fly away to a place with no rules, were you can be whoever you want to be and never EVER have to grow up. I have grown up with the Disney version of this story but have recently found that the 2001 version is better in my opinion and portrays the ideas of the story better.

  17. The Twelve Dancing Princesses has always been a favorite of mine. Disney never made a version, but there was a Barbie version. It was okay. I like the horrified originals or even horrified adaptations. It gives it a good twist. I once read an original work from someone that was the story of Cinderella. It was quite dark and twisted. Lots of blood involved, but I absolutely loved it.
