Lover Unbound by J. R. Ward

JRWard-Lover Unbound

JRWard-Lover UnboundHave I claimed that each of the other brothers from the Black Dagger Brotherhood was my favorite brother of all? Well, I lied. V is, and always will be, my absolute favorite. Lover Unbound by JR Ward blew me away. It was dark and gritty yet emotional with all of the fighting and incredibly hot sex. And, of course, there was lots of V, the bad ass computer geek. Le sigh.

The ruthless and brilliant brother Vishous possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn’t choose takes him into a future that does not include her…

I’ve always been drawn to V, especially after seeing his unrequited love for Butch in Lover Revealed.  He’s a hot, badass, computer geek with such a dark, depressing past that I just wanted to hug him and never let him go. Personally, I think V’s childhood was worse than Z’s, in that it was V’s own father that was abusing him while Z had known he’d been kidnapped as a child.

I loved Jane. I think she was the most kick ass heroine in the series so far. She had a tough, won’t-take-crap-from-anyone attitude that none of the other heroines had. She was smart, incredibly talented, stubborn and defiant – the perfect combination because she was the polar opposite of the other women V normally went after.

Lover Unbound focused more on V and Jane than anything else. In fact, the lessers played such a minor role I was almost surprised that they showed up at all. Yet, if there had been more to the plot, (more lessers, more fighting, more subplots, etc.) it would have been too much. V’s intensity and his history were enough to keep the plot from ever dragging. Plus, out of all the brothers, V had the hottest sex. And I don’t mean literally because of the candles; but if there has ever been a book that should have a cold shower included, it’s Lover Unbound.

I alternately laughed and cried throughout Lover Unbound, with my heart continuously melting over V and Jane. The word “love” doesn’t even begin to describe what I feel for this book.
