Look Who’s Going to RT: Leanna Renee Hieber

Leanna Renee HieberCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m an award winning, bestselling author of Gothic Victorian paranormal fantasy for adults & teens. An occasional actress. A devotee of ghost stories, corsets & Goth clubs.

I’m currently thrilled about my latest release, the launch of the Magic Most Foul saga with DARKER STILL. It stars a hot British Lord, a haunted painting, nasty curses, spooky nightmares, a sweeping romance, pretty dresses and dashing suit-coats – all in 1880 New York City.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
With all my books, I tend towards a Gothic sensibility. In the current world I’m writing, the Magic Most Foul saga, which began with DARKER STILL and continues with THE TWISTED TRAGEDY OF MISS NATALIE STEWART with Sourcebooks this November, I’m relishing in a spooky, Gothic, dark-magic filled setting where my hero and heroine (who continue as leads through the saga) are intimately faced with paranormal mysteries, one after the next, in 1880 New York City at the dawn of it’s Gilded Age. This intimate, first-person setting is different from the more epic Historical Fantasy world I built in the Strangely Beautiful saga. Both sagas take place in a Gaslight Gothic Victorian world where paranormal happenings become the norm. But with Magic Most Foul, being a YA series with crossover-appeal to adults, that more intimate setting works well, especially for the horror elements I continue to introduce.

Probably my favorite aspect of the Magic Most Foul saga is paying homage to 19th century paranormal classics such as The Picture of Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, and the imagination of Edgar Allan Poe. All my favorite 19th century paranormal authors deeply influenced me and I love being able to directly showcase that inspiration in this series.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’m an RT vet! Don’t be afraid to come up and say hello to us authors! Tell us what you like about our books, your favorite characters, your hopes for the future, it keeps us going! As long as no one disrespects an author’s personal boundaries, we are so happy to get the chance to talk with the people who make it possible for us to keep writing books!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
Yes, I’ll be participating in the YA sleep-over party, the Steampunk / Gaslight Fantasy party, a Gods and Mythology panel, and signing in Teen Alley!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
The perky blonde Goth girl in Victorian regalia! I’m the one all in black. My “sis” fellow author Suzanne Lazear, is usually all in colors, this is how you tell us apart. :)

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
