Harris O’Malley & the YA genre

Browsing through the interweb and I found an article on Harris O’Malley. This picture was showcased and it just captured me. Maybe it’s the Demon Summoning for Dummies that the chick is holding, but I like it. I also think it shows a trend in the paranormal world right now – lots of young adult fiction. If you think about it, there are a ton popping up everywhere. Kelley Armstrong just released The Summoning, her first YA novel. Plus Rachel Vincent is working on My Soul to Take, which is currently in her publishing house. In addition, look at the success of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight (Twilight), PC Cast’s House of Night (Marked), Rachel Caine’s Morgansville Vampires (Glass House), and the obvious JK Rowling’s Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) series. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the YA genre, in fact I enjoy all of these series. I just find it interesting that it’s blossoming up like it is.

I am curious though, what are your thoughts on the growing popularity of the young adult genre, especially among adults?

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
