Look Who’s Going to RT: Veronica Wolff

Veronica WolffCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’ve been writing for the Penguin Group for a few years now, and couldn’t be happier. I live in San Francisco with my husband, two kids, and a small pack of rescue animals, so it’s a constant juggling act–one that I feel blessed to have. I began my career writing Scottish time travels, moved onto Scottish historicals, then last year I took a sharp turn into two new-to-me genres: contemporary romance and young adult.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
“I have two new series out. The Watchers (Isle of NightVampire’s Kiss and Blood Fever) follows Annelise Drew as she competes against other teenaged outcasts in the hopes of becoming a Watcher, one of an elite group serving as agents, emissaries, and sometimes assassins for a coven of ancient vampires.

My other series is considerably more warm-hearted–and warm-blooded! Sierra Falls is set in a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Living in Northern California as I do, spending as much time as possible in Tahoe, this project is especially dear to my heart.

The two worlds couldn’t be more different, but I love being able to switch between the two. I can work on my Sierra Falls contemporary romance series, spending time with a close-knit community–not to mention swoon-worthy men like my strapping widower sheriff! But then I can always take off for the Isle of Night and its world of elaborate intrigues, tough girls, and ruthless vampires.”

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
It’s my second RT–last year marked my first, and I couldn’t wait to come back. My advice to newbies is to get ready to have a blast. From the first day of my first RT convention, I was hooked. And don’t be afraid to dress up!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
Not that I know of…yet! I really enjoyed last year’s panels–particularly the young adult sessions–and will be hitting as many as I can again this year. I’m a sucker for craft panels, so will be hitting a bunch of those as well.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
If you see me, please come say hi! I love meeting readers and other writers. I’ll be rooming with my good friend and fellow author, Monica McCarty–we’re very excited to be traveling with our daughters this year! So if you see two women with a couple of wide-eyed tweens in tow, that’s us.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
