Look Who’s Going to RT: Linnea Sinclair

Linnea SinclairCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
Be glad to. I’m the short blonde sitting over here at the end of the bar, nursing a gin and tonic (two limes, please)… Oh. That’s not what you meant? Then how about I’m the short blonde sitting over here in a bar that looks like it belongs on a Star Wars or Star Trek movie set, the drink I’m cradling changes color ever 15.3 seconds, and, yes, that is a Hazer blaster strapped to my thigh… Hi, I’m Linnea Sinclair and I write high action-adventure science fiction romance novels.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
I work in intra- and intergalactic star systems populated by characters that have the same wants, needs, and desires as you or your best friend. I just enjoy the larger “”canvas”” of other worlds and other sentients, but the reality is that my books explore very human issues of love, belonging, loyalty, justice, faith, hope, and dreams.

My Dock Five series initially centers on a disgraced female starship captain–Chasidah Bergren–and a mercenary with a lot of very serious secrets (GABRIEL’S GHOST and SHADES OF DARK). But then it branched out to include a military May-December romance in HOPE’S FOLLY, and a techno-geek adventure romance with REBELS AND LOVERS.

My stand-alone novels include an SF/Fantasy/Sorcery blend in AN ACCIDENTAL GODDESS, and other stand-alone SFR books that have lots of action and lots of longing. My THE DOWN HOME ZOMBIE BLUES was optioned by a Hollywood movie studio and is current in production. I don’t have a release date on the film but you can follow it on one of the cast member’s blogs: http://themakingofthedownhomealienblues.blogspot.com/

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’m pretty much an RT veteran. I believe my first RT was in 2000. For first timers, 1) wear comfortable shoes and take your vitamins 2) don’t be shy even if you are. Everyone is here to have fun and everyone had their First RT at some point. 3) Don’t try to do everything. You can’t and you’ll wear yourself out (even with the vitamins) 4) Come to my Intergalactic Bar & Grille party on Wednesday afternoon at 445PM. We give away a lot of really fun things that you’ll find useful for the rest of the convention 5) wear comfortable shoes and take your vitamins.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
“I’m on the science fiction panel at 1PM Wednesday, and then YA author Stacey Kade and I are doing our loads-of-fun editing panel on Thursday 10AM. We’re critique partners in real life and enjoy teaching the craft of writing.

BEFORE the convention starts, though, there’s the RT Pre-Con Aspiring Writers’ Program. This year I’m handling the Beginning Writers.

If you’ve ever wanted to write a novel, this is one of the best programs out there to help you get started. We have great workshops, terrific teachers, we make it fun, and you’ll come away with loads of tips and tricks–and new friends! ”

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
A short blonde sitting at the end of the bar with a Hazer strapped to one thigh… or more likely, a short blonde sitting at the bar with a gin and tonic (two limes, please) in one hand and a Chanel purse in the other. You see, it’s really not a Chanel purse. That’s a disguise. It’s a deep-space personnel transporter so that I can get back to my ship on a moment’s notice. Beam me up, Coco!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
