Look Who’s Going to RT: Jessica Andersen

Jessica AndersenCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
Hi there, literary escape artists! I’m Jessica Andersen, aka Doc Jess, aka She Who Writes The Nightkeeper Series. And Harlequin Intrigues. And the occasional Nocturne. LOL. I guess the best way to sum it up is that I write action-adventure romances that usually have a science-geek twist to them. They’re smart, fun, and high adrenaline.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The Nightkeepers are a group of modern-day men and women who have recently learned that the so-called Mayan Doomsday is real … and oh, by the way, it’s up to them to save humanity using ancestral magic based on blood and the power of love (or at least really, really good sex).

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my third (maybe fourth?) RT Convention, and my best advice would be for folks to have fun with it!! Yes, some of the stuff that’s offered is a little out there, but I’ve found that by keeping an open mind and rolling with whatever’s in front of me, I’ve had tons of fun doing stuff I never would’ve expected I would enjoy (musical chairs on cover models’ laps, costume parties, cougar raffles, etc.). At the same time, don’t fret if that sort of thing really isn’t your cup of Diet Coke! There’s such a huge variety of things to choose from, you’ll never lack for something to do.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
JR Ward and I will be doing our “No Holds Barred” workshop, where we answer anything and everything (well, almost) from the audience, and talk about being friends and critique partners. As for workshops I’m attending, Sara Humphries’ workshop on public speaking is amazing. I’ll be there, and highly recommend it!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Hm … I’m kind of stumbling over this question. If you’d asked me a couple of years ago, I would’ve said someone pretty intense, probably wearing black, and located in the lounge area at odd hours of the night and early morning, writing furiously. Since then, though, I blew up my old life, met The One (which, for the record, I didn’t believe in previously), got married, and have generally rearranged my universe in a far happier pattern. So now I’m just as likely to be wearing pink and a goofy grin, kicking back with friends. Either way, if you spot me in the wild, please feel free to introduce yourself and say ‘hi’!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi Jess, Looking forward to seeing you at RT. Being a first-timer, I’ll be the one with her eyes rolling back in her head and walking in circles, LOL. I’m still studying up on the RT website trying to figure out what to do and where I’m supposed to go. It’ll be nice to have a friendly face there. BTW, I can’t wait for the release of the next Nightkeepers book. I’ve been a fan since page one of book one!

  2. Someday, after I get my RN and I make the big bucks, I’ll be able to fly off to these wonderful events =)

And then Doc Jess will probably put me to work :P *hug!*
