Escapist Newsletter (Vol 6 Issue 4)

News from LE

Have you been reading along with Dark Faerie Tales and I as we get caught up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood?  The discussion for Lover Unleashed has been posted over at Dark Faerie Tales.  Teams DFT and LE are now deep into the story of Thor in Lover Reborn and that discussion will be posted here at LE this weekend.  If you haven’t had a chance to see the discussions, here they are: Dark Lover is now posted over at Dark Faerie Tales, Lover Eternal is now posted here at Literary Escapism, Lover Awakened is now posted here at Dark Faerie Tales, Lover Revealed is now posted here at Literary Escapism, Lover Unbound is now posted here at Dark Faerie Tales, Lover Enshrined is now posted here at Literary Escapism, Lover Avenged is now posted here at Dark Faerie Tales and Lover Mine is now posted here at Literary Escapism. We’re still talking about them, so stop by and put in your two cents!

Next week, the 29th RT Booklovers Convention will commence and Casey and I will be roaming the halls all week.  We won’t be the only ones and LE has been showcasing 40 different authors who will also be there.  There are a ton of fabulous authors that are going to be there – Ilona Andrews, Chloe Neill, Larissa Ione, Nalini Singh and Jus Accardo just to name a few.  I have to say, I’m also super psyched to hear that Anne Rice is going to be there as well.  I wasn’t going to bring any books to sign (just a couple of scrapbook pages), but I have so changing my mind.

The Outlander Reading Challenge is going full steam ahead, so don’t forget to include your reviews as you get them posted.  We all want to know what you thought!  The discussions for Outlander was posted here and Dragonfly in Amber was posted here. The discussion for Lord John and the Private Matter will be posted tomorrow.

Book News

AStrout-AlchemysticIn her most recent newsletter, Jenna Black has announced that she has sold two more novels, plus a novella, in her Nikki Glass series and is currently working on the third novel, which is tentatively titled Rogue Descendant.

Rachel Vincent has announced the title for her seventh (and final) Soul Screamers novel.  Since it is the final, HQTeen and Rachel have merged both styles of titles for the final book.  With All My Soul will be out sometime in 2013.

Has the title for Anton Strout’s first Spellcaster novel been mentioned anywhere  yet? I don’t remember seeing it, but Amazon now has the preorder link up for Alchemystic, which will release September 25, 2012.

Vicki Pettersson will be hitting the streets this summer with a tour for her upcoming novel, The Taken. I’m super excited since Vicki will be making only one stop in the midwest and it’s near me.  Well, it’s 5 hours away, but my sister is an hour from the signing, so – ROAD TRIP!

RT Book Reviews has found that Melissa de la Cruz will be continuing her Witches of the East End series with three additional books.  There’s also news of new books coming from Paolo Bacigalupi (Zombie Baseball Beatdown) and Kimberly Raye.  RT Book Reviews also has news that Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (Beautiful Creatures), Markus Zusak (The Book Thief) and Anne Rice (Tale of the Body Thief) all have films in the works based on their novels.

There’s a new author collaboration blog. Word Whores features the ramblings and fabulous wit of Allison Pang, Jeffe Kennedy, Kristine Krantz, Marcella Burnard, Linda Robertson, James Tuck and Carolyn Crane. This is a great mixture of new and burning talent, so make sure you stop by at some point.

Featured Book: Spirited (Anthology)

Antho-SpiritedHaunted houses. Haunted hearts.
And a past that refuses to die.

Leap Books summoned best-selling paranormal and dreadfully talented debut authors to conjure up Spirited, a haunting collection of 13 tales guaranteed to keep you up all night.

Get entombed in stories of Egyptian treasures, shudder at tales of malevolent spirits, and become enthralled with the adventures of witch-hunters, ghost seekers, and lost souls. From steampunk to cyberpunk, our collection spans past, present, and future hauntings. One story actually leaps off the page with 3-D augmented reality.

With this celebration of things that go bump in the night, Spirited authors hope to slay the specter of illiteracy that plague our youth. All proceeds from Spirited will be donated to 826 National, a non-profit organization that offers free after-school tutoring, workshops, and in-school programs because “strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.”

Go ahead. Turn the page if you dare. We won’t tell if you sleep with the light on. Because after all, there’s no rest for the wicked.

Contributing authors include: Maria V. Snyder, Candace Havens, Shannon Delany, Jill Williamson, Linda Joy Singleton, Heather Kenealy, Judith Graves, Kitty Keswick, Dawn Dalton, Carmen Tudor, John W. Otte, Halli Dee Lilburn, and Mark Finnemore

All proceeds from both the print and digital sales of Spirited go to benefit National 826, a literacy-based charity.

From the Reader

Stumbling Over Chaos has another fabulous edition of her Misadventures in Stock Photography and today we get to meet Where Does That Hip Tattoo End Guy (WDTHTEG).

Parajunkee has posted another fabulous edition of Blogging 101 and this time she’s focusing on Content Scraping and Content Thieves.  She’s actually been pretty busy with the Blogging 101 posts, and if interested, here are her previous posts: Am I A Promo Whore?, Blogger Burnout & China Scams and Cliques & Changing Reviews.

Stainless Steel Droppings is hosting his sixth annual Once Upon a Time reading challenge between now and June 19th and is perfect for anyone who loves fairy tales.  There are different levels (including one for film) that participants can chose and it’s one that I highly recommend.

I so didn’t know that Book Chick City is doing a Sookie Stackhouse Read-Along! I love this series, although the last couple of books haven’t been the greatest, and I can’t wait to see how Charlaine Harris ends it.

The Paperback Dolls has news that Cassandra Clare will be continuing the story of her Shadowhunters with a third series called The Dark Artifices.  The first book won’t be published into 2015, so there’s not much more we know at this point.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
