Sunday Surprise from Book Chick City!

Book Chick CityFor today’s Sunday Surprise, we have a surprise visit from Laura at Book Chick City!

I joined www.bookchickcity.com, owned by the lovely Carolyn in April 2010, and since then we’ve become fast friends. As a self-confessed bookworm, I just LOVE books! My favourite genres are urban fantasy, horror and I cannot resist a good love story with a supernatural beastie to whisk me away. I also have a bit of a handbag addiction, actually maybe best not mention the handbags, they seem to be breeding ;-) !.

I’ve always had a bit of an addiction to books, but since I’ve began reviewing my wishlist is so long now I reckon I could line them up and walk on them to the moon! So it really was quite easy to choose three books that are ‘tempting’ me! ;)

My first book is unusually not a paranormal or urban fantasy book. It was a book recommended to me by a friend. But every now and then I do fancy something a little bit different. It’s Before I Go To Sleep by S J Watson. And tells the story of a woman who has no short term memory who keeps a journal to remind herself who she is. I’ve also heard it’s a very good suspense. I look forward to picking this one up!

SJWatson-Before I Go To Sleep‘As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me …’

Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love – all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story. Welcome to Christine’s life.

Second on my list is Working Stiff by Rachel Caine (Revitalist #1) . This book was brought it my attention by Carolyn, my fellow blogger on BCC who listed it on her Wishlist. She has a totally awesome book collection, I have secret daydreams about sneaking into her house and stealing a few! ;) I’ve long been a fan of Caine’s Weather Warden series, although I have to confess I’ve fallen behind on it of late, but I really enjoyed the ones I’ve read. Not only does this book have a super cover (US edition), but the back cover sounds pretty awesome too.

RCaine-Working Stiff.UKBryn Davis was killed after discovering her bosses were selling a drug designed to resurrect the dead. Now, revived by that same drug, she becomes an undead soldier in a corporate war to take down the very pharmaceutical company responsible for her new condition.

My third book is Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost (Night Prince #1). I’m a huge fan of Frost’s writing, and adore Cat and Bones. Her spin-offs have not quite had the same spark for me, but I really like Vlad; every scene he’s in ends up making me smile. So I have been anticipating the release of his book for a little while. Roll on the 26th June…

JFrost-Once BurnedShe’s a mortal with dark powers…
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude… until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…

He’s the Prince of Night…
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all — but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him – a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Laura, I agree about Frosts Cat and Bones Series and the Spin offs. I hope this Vlad one is better, but I just don’t imagine Vlad like he is on the cover. To me he isn’t as muscly. Maybe someone more like a younger Johnny Depp or even Orlando Bloom.

I also have the rachel caine book I won off the blog before I became a reviewer on it. Still not read it yet

  2. Firstly thanks for having me!

@Gemma I’m actually not a fan of the ‘Once Burned’ book cover. Firstly I’m not a fan of half naked men on my books, but like you I don’t think it looks like I imagine Vlad to look like. When you get around to reading the Rachel Caine book, let me know what you think of it :)

  3. @Laura. I ordered the book before the cover had been released. Have to admit apart from the Bones and Kat covers, I really don’t like frosts book covers.

As soon as I read it I’ll let you know
