Escapist Newsletter (Vol 6 Issue 5)

News from LE

NKotecki-Suburban StrangeBefore we get too far, let’s announce the winner of the Linda Poitevin contest.  Linda recently came by with a fabulous short prequel story to her Gregori Legacy series and from everyone’s reaction, it is one not to be missed.  While she was here, we gave away a copy of Sins of the Son (print in US/CA or digital for international) and the winner will also be entered into a grand prize drawing for a fabulous necklace/earring set designed by Cemetery Cat (Linda will be announcing that winner soon).  However, the winner for the copy of Sins of the Son is….Sonia C! I’ve already sent you an email Sonia, so if you don’t see it, please email me with your info so I can pass it on to Linda.

Casey and I attended the RT Booklovers Convention earlier this month and we got, not only one, but two fabulous RT Posters signed by A LOT of authors.  I think the posters are 16×24 and are so jammed packed with authors, it’s freaking amazing.  We will be giving away these posters this summer during two mini-reading challenges, so make sure you keep a lookout for them starting in June.

As for the Black Dagger Brotherhood Read-Along, no we haven’t forgotten that we still owe you a discussion for Lover Reborn.  We’re still planning on doing it.  Dark Faerie Tales and I had a couple of things come up, plus trying to get our hands on a copy from our libraries, so we’ve encountered a slight delay.

In contest news, I’m raising money for the Susan G. Komen 5K Walk (which I’m doing again this year), and I’m giving away signed copies of the first four novels in Richelle Mead’s Georgina Kincaid series, Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions as an incentive.  The contest runs May 26th, the day of the walk, and you can enter as many times as you want.  It all depends on how much you would like to donate to a worthy cause.

The massive Author Website List has been updated – I totally didn’t realzie it had been so long – and I’m currently working on updating the Series List.  The SL was also way out of date, so I know I’m missing a ton of series.  If you want to help and have any you want me to add, you can add them here.

Cover Extravaganza

I’m only going to show off a few that I haven’t seen get as much time on the blogs, but you can find all of them, in their original sizes, on the Facebook page. There were a ton of great sources: Wicked Scribes, All Things Urban Fantasy, Michelle’s Book Blog, Escape Between the Pages, Dark Faerie Tales and Tez Says.

Book News

Karen Chance has posted the cover and back cover blurb for the third Dory Basarab novel and I seriously can’t wait for more Louis-Cesare.  Fury’s Kiss will be released in October.

KChance-Furys KissDory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.

It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.

To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead…

Speaking of Dory, if you enjoyed Chance’s story in the Chicks Kick Butt anthology, you’ll be happy to hear that Chance will be making her contribution, In Vino Veritas, available for free via her website in June.

Have we seen what the titles for the Dani series by Karen Marie Moning will be?  If not, they’ve been posted over at KMM’s site and they may give a slight clue as to the tone.  Following Iced, we’ll get to read Burned and Flayed, hopefully sometime next year.

Jeri Smith-Ready will be making her WVMP series novella, Let It Bleed, available for free starting on May 27th.  The story is integral to the series, so if you’re eagerly awaiting Lust for Life, make sure you grab this as well.  Slight warning, Let It Bleed will only be free for one year.

Blastr.com has the news on SyFy’s new programming, which is going to involve 28 new scripted shows. This is huge because one of those shows will be Charlaine Harris’ Grave Sight. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m excited for this. SyFy is probably one of the best places for supernatural programming and they do it right.

Jeaniene Frost has posted a bunch of videos from her panel “We’re No Angels” at C2E2 earlier in April.  In addition to Frost, the panel included authors Kerrelyn Sparks, Chloe Neill, Pamela Palmer, Karina Cooper, Christina Henry and Charlaine Harris.

Richelle Mead has announced the dates and stops for her Golden Lily tour and she’ll be stopping in Lansing, Mi! I’m hoping to be able to attend, but it’s a Tuesday stop so it’ll depend on if the hubby will let me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. *grin*

Karen Marie Moning has posted a sneak peek at a page from her upcoming graphic novel, Fever Moon. In addition, we’re told that there is a seven page pictorial excerpt of Fever Moon in the back of Into the Dreaming.

Something to keep on your radar, later this month, Chloe Neill will be hosting the first annual Chicagoland Vampires Spring Fling and she’s starting the event with a GoodReads contests of 20 copies of Some Girls Bite.  On May 16th, she’ll have a contest for two ARCs of Biting Cold, so if you’ve been looking for a way to get your hands on it, make sure you check back to Chloe Neill‘s site in a couple of weeks.

Charlaine Harris beings her Deadlocked tour today with a stop in Coral Gables, Florida (she’s at the Books & Books). She has a few more stops in Florida with additional stops in South Carolina, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.

Shiloh Walker has some fabulous news…she’s just sold two more novels! One of the books is another FBI Psychic titled The Protected, and it’ll feature a character from her February 2013 novel, The Reunited. The second book is slightly different as it’s a full length contemporary tentatively titled Wreck This Life. There’s not much else being said about Wreck This Life, including a release date, but Shiloh has added a small excerpt for those curious.

Nalini Singh posted her publishing schedule for 2013 and we’re getting some exciting books next year. We’re getting a Psy/Changing anthology that will include two new novellas as well as two previously published ones and a new Psy/Changing and Guild Hunter novel.

Chloe Neill has posted the title for the seventh Chicagoland Vampires novel, House Rules, which will be out in February 2013.

Featured Novel: The Voice by Anne Bishop

ABishop-VoiceAn original novella from the New York Times bestselling author of Bridge of Dreams…

In a small village outside the city of Vision, the people know no sorrow or grief. But this seemingly idyllic community is hiding a terrible secret. As a young child, Nalah did not know why she was told to bring a cake to the mute girl known as the Voice whenever she was upset, only that doing so made her feel better. Now grown, Nalah understands the dark truth, and yearns to escape from the oppressive village that has been her life-long home. But it is only after visiting the city of Vision and discovering the Temple of Sorrow that Nalah understands what she must do to be free…

From the Reader

KLocke-Queen is DeadComic artist, John Romita Jr, is going to sketch/sign for 50 hrs in Vegas next weekend to raise money for Heroes for Jordan and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation next weekend.  If you’re going to be in the area, I would check it out.

Not surprising, drama can easily rear it’s ugly head on the Internet and knowing how to deal with it can be a dilemma.  I know there are times I want to reply and times I know I shouldn’t.  Parajunkee’s View has taken this idea and made it the focus of her latest Blogging 101.

Just announced at io9, Disney has acquired the rights to Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book and has already tapped a director to bring the book to the big screen.  Henry Selick, who gave life Gaiman’s Coraline last year, will work his magic on The Graveyard Book as well. No word on when we can expect the movie to hit theaters.

Tynga’s Reviews has started a new weekly feature in light of the recent drama. For those looking for something similar to the In My Mailbox feature (without the now apparent stigma associated with the host), I would check Stacking the ShelvesParajunkee and LE already have. *grin*

Stumbling Over Chaos has another fabulous edition of her Misadventures in Stock Photography and this time we get to see Baddest Santa Guy.

Tor.com has some fabulous news for those of us with ereaders.  Starting in July, they will be releasing all of their ebooks without that dreaded DRM. This means that once you buy that book, you’ll be able to move it between any device you own.

Blogging by Liza went to one of the recent JR Ward signings and took some great notes. I’m not going to tell you everything she says, but here are a couple of highlights:

  • If you’re Blay and Qhuinn fans, rejoice.  They are the next novel! Bad news is that it won’t be out until 2013.
  • Ward explained some of the things that happened in Lover Reborn, mainly about Tohr.
  • And there’s notes about upcoming novellas – Wrath/Beth and Rhage/Mary – that are in the works.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
