Glorious Spiders

Yesterday I posted my review for the wonderful Ghostland by Jory Strong and was hoping there’ll be another novel in this series. Kmont over at Lurv à la Mode (which by the way is now getting moved from my Google Reader to my RSS feed) was able to answer that question for me. Check out this awesome cover for the second novel, Spider Touched, and it’s going to be released August 4th!  Isn’t this another gorgeous cover?  Kmont even has the blurb, so make sure you go check it out.

Katie MacAlister is in the process of writing a new novel (potentially a new series) called Steamed.  It’s part of the rising steampunk genre and it’s due out sometime this year.  She’s posted the cover copy, so I’m wondering what everyone thinks.

Jack Fletcher’s heart is about to get punked.

Computer technician Jack Fletcher is no hero, despite his unwelcome reputation as one. In fact, he’s just been the victim of bizarre circumstances. Like now. His sister happens to disturb one of his nanoelectromechanical system experiments, and now they aren’t where they’re supposed to be. In fact, they’re not sure where they are when…

…they wake up to see a woman with the reddest hair Jack has ever seen—and a gun. Octavia Pye is an Aerocorps captain with a whole lot of secrets, and she’s not about to see her maiden voyage ruined by stowaways. But the sparks flying between her and Jack just may cause her airship to combust and ignite a passion that will forever change the world as she knows it…

Marta Acosta has posted the nominees for her the Ultimate Hawt Vampire Poll and she’s taking votes. So go forth and make your preferences known.  There’ll be a prize for some commentators, how many, no clue – I don’t think she knows yet either.   :)  My top 5, in no particular order – Eric Northman in True Blood (Alexander Skarsgard), Angel in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel (David Boreanaz), Spike in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (James Marsters), Deacon Frost in Blade (Stephen Dorf) and Aaron Gray in The Breed (Adrian Paul – who doesn’t love Adrian Paul?).

Entertainment Weekly is asking a very good question and it definitely has me thinking (of course I had a little giggle when they mentioned seaQuest). Why don’t we want science fiction on television anymore? I actually prefer SciFi/Fantasy TV over most of the reality crap they have on now, which is probably why I spend more time reading than watching any TV.  But I’m not the one making the decisions.  I’m curious, what everyone else think?  Is there a reason why the paranormal/fantasy/science fiction genre is booming in the publishing world, but tanking on television?  Is the corporate world too focused on the $$ (there has to be a bit more expense to it than a normal sitcom) and not really looking at what the fans are saying/doing?  What’s your answer?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. MacAlister’s book sounds really interesting and I would love an excuse to pick her books up again. I can’t wait to get some current options for steampunk. The upcoming crop looks promising.

Strong has certainly been blessed by the cover gods! If I had the wall space I’d see if posters were available.
