I don’t like series finales. They’re just….sad and much anticipated and so many emotions about it that it’s hard to know what to really say. Endure by Carrie Jones is the last of the Need series. Endure was a book I was excited to read, to finally see what happens with Zara and the crew. And wow…what a ride!
Zara is at the center of an all-out war, and an impending apocalypse. True, she’s successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn’t enough. Bedford is being ravaged by evil pixies and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army. Zara isn’t sure what her role is anymore. She’s not just fighting for her friends, she’s also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can’t even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king…
The tension between Zara and Nick and Zara and Astley and even all three of them is just…wow. Zara is confused at what she feels for these 2 heroes. She risked everything to save Nick and well….does he hate her? And then there’s Astley. Is it true that a pixie can really be good? I promise you that Ms. Jones gives you the answers to these questions…and all the other ones you’ve developed as the series has gone along.
The roller coaster of emotions, uncertainty and holy crap moments continue in Endure. Zara and the crew have to continue to figure out which Norse legends are true, decipher prophecies and figure out what part(s) are real and what is really myth. A good portion of the book centers on this as well as trying to figure out what path they should take in preventing the apocalypse. That part got a little old, I won’t lie. While Ms. Jones does finally wrap everything up and bring it all together, getting there seemed LONG. I do think that Endure is the longest book (word count wise) of the series. There were times I caught myself wondering if we were ever gonna get answers and if this was really the finale. But once the final battle starts you want it to end and see what happens and you don’t…all at once.
There is somewhat of an epilogue. It’s nice to see things “settled” but to me it didn’t feel as if things were final. The crew were still waiting for the shoe to drop, so to speak. So I know I’m wondering if there might be more of Zara & Co. in the future? *ponders*.
i also don’t like endings especially if that series is really nice.
