Hotter Than Hell by J. Kessler

Hotter than Hell is the third novel in the Hell on Earth series by Jackie Kessler. I’m trying to think of a way to adequately start out this review, but all I can think of is…I love it when I’m completely blindsided by an ending. You start the novel thinking one thing and then it doesn’t happen and you’re not upset about it because the ending that is there is completely awesome. Let me try and start from the beginning.

This time around, Daunuan gets to possess us for the ride. Daun is still fuming over the idea that Jezebel left him for a flesh puppet and he doesn’t like it one bit. What’s the world coming to when a demon falls victim to love? He doesn’t understand it one bit and when he’s given a challenge by the King of Lust, he eagerly accepts the mark. The score – to seduce a soul marked for heaven and damn her in the name of Lust. For Daun, it should be easy, but nothing about Virginia is going as he plans. Add in Hell trying to take him out (and he doesn’t know why), the entire exercise starts to get on his nerves.

There’s just something about Daun that I’m really starting to enjoy. At first, when we meet him in Hell’s Belles, I really didn’t like him much. Afterall, he does everything he can to make Jezebel’s new start in life as hard as he can. However, after reading about his views on the ending of their love affair, I can see how he would feel. Afterall, it’s like his wife just went up and left him for another man after thousands of years together. That would have to take a toll on a person, err…demon. I guess what really gets me is the transformation Daun goes through in Hotter than Hell. I won’t go into what the transformation is, but I think the ending will surprise people. Especially with the way the previous two novels have ended. One thing is for certain, there’s another novel on the horizon and it’s going to mean even more chaos for our two lust demons.

Overall, I’m really enjoying this series and now I can’t wait for book four to be released, but I know I have awhile to wait. Afterall, Hotter than Hell doesn’t hit the shelves until August, so the fourth book isn’t even being talked about yet. Either way, make sure you get your hands on this book. It is a true incubus and just sucks you into the story. The entire series is true to the form of an incubus. The more I think of this comparison, the more sense it makes. With each new addition, the series just keeps tempting you and making you want more and by the third date you are so totally devoted that you’re not sure where the time has gone.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
