Escapist Newsletter (Vol 6 Issue 6)

News from LE

AGHoward-SplinteredDo you love the science fiction and/or fantasy genres? Have you ever thought about reviewing them online? If so, LE is looking for a strictly science fiction and/or fantasy reviewer to join us staff.  Here’s briefly what I’m looking for:

Literary Escapism is looking to add a reviewer who will only review science fiction and/or straight fantasy. I am not looking for someone who is looking to expand out of the UF/PNR genres into something new; this person must already be a fan of the genre and have a knowledge of it.  This new reviewer will not be receiving any UF/PNR novels and will be expected to submit one review a week for a total of 4-5 reviews per month.

For more information on the position, click here.

Winners for the Katie Reus and Chicagoland Spring Fling contests have been contacted. If you’re a winner, please be sure to contact me back so that I can get your prizes to you.

Dark Faerie Tales and I have not forgotten about the Black Dagger Brotherhood Read-Along. I’ll be honest, after hearing all the discussion for Lover Reborn, it really hasn’t been appealing to me. In addition, I’m still on the wait list at the library. *grin*  We will be posting it this month, so it is coming.

On Monday, Vicki Pettersson is the latest author to talk with Larissa (from Larissa’s Bookish Life) and I as part of our Bookish Escape feature.  We’ll be discussing her new supernatural noir mystery, The Taken, as well as giving away a signed personalized copy to one lucky participant. For all the details, click here.

Book News

LEvans-Trouble with FateJocelynn Drake will be launching a new series this fall with Angel’s Ink; but for those interested in a glimpse into her new world, Asylum Interviews: Bronx will be released on July 3rd and will featuring one of the side characters from Angel’s Ink (a second novella, The Asylum Interviews: Trixie, will release on September 4th). In additional, Drake will be doing a week long blog tour where she will interview five characters from her series. The tour starts off here on LE, so make sure you check back on July 2nd for an interview with the series hero, Gage.

Stephanie Meyer’s The Host is currently in production as the next Meyer film and MTV was able to sit two with two of the actors involved. This actually makes me kind of curious to read it.

Joey W. Hill announced the title to her next Vampire Queen novel in her recent newsletter. A release date hasn’t been set yet, but we’ll get to meet Alanna, Evan and Niall in Taken by the Vampire.

Groomed from birth to be an Inherited Servant, those who serve the most powerful vampire masters, Alanna never resented her destiny—she embraced it. Then she did the unthinkable; she betrayed her Master to the Vampire Council.

Certain death is her future, but until her Master is captured, she must be protected. The Vampire Council assigns her to Evan, a vampire who travels the world, painting whatever his muse dictates. His wandering lifestyle makes him the perfect hiding place…

Her training was for a vampire of power and ambition, one who requires her skills in politics, culture, sophistication. Evan lives in shacks on mountainsides, in caves in the Middle East, in a tent in the middle of a redwood forest. His servant, Niall, is a rough-mannered Scot who has been with him nearly three centuries. But these two men will teach her something her rigorous training never did. How to feel, to desire…perhaps even to love.

The knowledge is bittersweet. When the Council captures her Master, Alanna must accept her fate. But Evan and Niall are no strangers to defying fate. If she’s the prize, nothing will stop these two from fighting destiny to make her theirs forever.

Kelly Meding has some fabulous news. Pocket Star will be publishing books three and four of her MetaWars series. There isn’t a tentative date when Tempest or Chimera will release, but with Changeling being released on June 26th, don’t expect it before this fall.

Meljean Brook has continued her Q&A session about the steampunk genre.

Sad news for Kim Harrison fans – it’s being reported that the CW has passed on airing The Hollows for the 2012-2013 televisions season. It also sounds like we won’t be able to expect it to air anytime soon. Harrison isn’t too optimistic that they’ll do anything with the series before their rights revert back to her.

Jennifer Estep has announced the title for her eighth Elemental Assassin novel. The next novel, Deadly Sting, will be released in April 2013.

Kim Harrison has announced the title for the eleventh Rachel Morgan novel and that we’ll be getting it a whole month earlier.  Ever After will be released January 22, 2013 instead of at the end of February.

Diana Rowland has fabulous news. DAW has bought four more novels in her Kara Gillian series as well as three more White Trash Zombie novels.

Featured Book: Devereaux: The Night Before Kismet by Lynda Hilburn

LHilburn-DevereuxMaster vampire Devereux has it all: immortality, good looks, intelligence, money, a body to die for, and a constant stream of available women. Sounds like an ideal existence. So, what’s the problem? He’s listless. Bored. Unhappy. After 800 years, coming up with reasons to rise for another meaningless night can be a challenge, and he’s starting to question his choices. Worried, two of Devereux’s old friends concoct a creative plan to energize and encourage him to rejoin the land of the unliving. Blastr is sharing the awesome new trailer for the CW’s Arrow. I’m liking what I see, but even more, fans of SyFy’s Dresden will recognize a familiar face.

Parajunkee View’s has posted another edition of her Book Blogging 101 and it’s all about marketing ones blog. I can tell you right now, I’m taking notes. About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
