Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

JFrost-Once Burned

JFrost-Once BurnedJackie was super lucky enough to get an ARC of Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost, and after teasing/tormenting me with it for months she finally loaned it to me. (Yeah, she loves me that much. *grin*) It was so worth every moment of torment!

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all–but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him – a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!! Ahem. Yes, as you can see, I’m really, madly, truly, deeply in love with Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost. It had everything: intense fight scenes, fiery hot sex, and most importantly, Vlad. Don’t tell Bones, but I may love Vlad more than I love him. Vlad was a badass yet compassionate. He truly did care about his people, but trust me when I say he didn’t get the name “The Impaler” by being nice.

I loved Leila. She had a unique and difficult past, yet she never let that hold her back. She was strong, independent and quite capable of kicking butt. Though she wasn’t perfect by any means. She had her faults and flaws like any normal person but that only made it that much easier to connect with her.

The plot never stopped moving. If there wasn’t a fight then the sparks were quite literally flying between Vlad and Leila. The sex was explosively hot, but I mean, what else would you expect from Vlad, who can control fire? Because this is Vlad’s book, his history is told in much more depth than anything we learned in Cat and Bones. And of course, the bad guy came from his history. I really liked the fact that the villain wasn’t some pushover, easily discovered/defeated.

The only thing wrong with Once Burned was that it ended. I should amend that to say, I really did not like the way it ended because now I have to wait eight long months until I can find out what happens next. I need more Vlad. NOW!

For anyone who has never read anything by Jeaniene Frost, (first I have to ask why the heck not?!) you can read Once Burned without getting lost. There were only vague references to the plots from Cat and Bones’s series. That being said, you really just need to go out and buy all of her books and see what you’ve been missing out on.
