Contest: Widow’s Web by Jennifer Estep

JEstep-Widows WebThanks to the wonderful people at Pocket Books, I happen to have a shiny ARC of Jennifer Estep’s next Elemental Assassin’s novel, Widow’s Web to give away.

My name is Gin, and I kill people. It’s something I’ve been doing for years as the assassin called Spider, but now, it’s turned into a necessity on my part just to survive all the lowlifes in Ashland who are gunning for me. The underworld is still in turmoil, and I seem to be on everyone’s hit list these days.

To add to Gin’s problems, her lover Owen’s ex is in town. Salina is back in Ashland to reclaim an old family legacy—and she thinks that Owen is hers for the taking. Also in the mix is Phillip Kincaid, a casino owner and all-around shady character who has a mysterious connection to both Owen and Salina.

Salina might seem like a sweet Southern belle, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. Her water elemental magic makes her a dangerous enemy—and someone who can go toe-to-toe with Gin’s Ice and Stone power. But Gin is determined to get to the bottom of Salina’s deadly scheme, even though it just might cost her everything…including Owen.

Meet Jennifer Estep!

Jennifer writes the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series for Pocket Books. The books focus on Gin Blanco, an assassin code named the Spider who can control the elements of Ice and Stone. When she’s not busy killing people and righting wrongs, Gin runs a bar be cue restaurant called the Pork Pit in the fictional Southern metropolis of Ash land. The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals – Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone.

Jennifer also writes the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series for Kensington. The books focus on Gwen Frost, a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with her magic, Gwen is shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendants of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, Amazons, and more.

Contest Time!

To enter for a chance to win either, all you have to do is answer this one question: Which Elemental Assassin character do you like and why? If you haven’t read the series yet, what is drawing you to it? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support Jennifer by sharing this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until July 31th at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I love them all, the characters are fantastically developed and there is something in each one of them that everyone can identify with (just ask my husband how I chop vegetables after reading these books). I love them all for different reasons:

I love Gin because she’s like no other heroine, and yes…she’s a heroine. She kicks butt and she’s a survivor but she’s also very deep and incredibly vulnerable when it comes to the people she loves. You see a very vulnerable side of her in her relationships with Bria and Owen and as they blossom she grows and you’re drawn to an entirely different side of her that everyone can identify with.

Fin because he’s a trouble-maker playboy but with a good heart and I think we’re going to get to see a whole different side of him as his relationship with Bria develops.

I love the Deveraux sisters because they are so different and represent very different facets of Gin’s life that are essential to who she is. There is mystery surrounding Sophia and glamour and healing surrounding JoJo and what’s not to love about a southern belle with a cloud rune and a fat doggie :)

Owen is strong and brave and self made but full of heart and dedication to his sister. He’s tender with Gin but not a pushover and they have a very real relationship. It’s not too goo-ey and over the top; it’s believable and when Donovan Caine showed up again we all held our breath for the future of Owen and Gin.

The relationships between all the characters are what drives the series. The plots are well balanced and well motivated and although you’re always left wanting more you never feel cheated when the story ends.

I can’t wait until we can all find ourselves inside the pink walls of the Pork Pit once again. I can almost taste the BBQ sauce and smell Finn’s chicory coffee…what’s for dessert Gin?

  2. I haven’t read this series yet, though I’m planning on starting because I read Estep’s YA series, Mythos Academy and really enjoy it.

  3. Gin is a tough butt kicking woman that I love! As the main character, Gin is my favorite. I love a story with a butt kicking woman who stands up for what she believes in! With Owen by her side she has become so much more as a character! Besides Gin, Owen is also a favorite character of mine!
Can’t wait for the next book!

  4. Gin all the way. I love strong heroines, and she is one for sure. She doesn’t take crap from anyone, and she has made a name for herself by being strong and fighting for herself. :D

  5. I love Gin Blanco because she’s had such a hard life and come out of that horror strong and very aware of who and what she is, but she still has the capacity to love the wonderful people in her life who support her. She also takes on the most hopeless cases for people who need her help, usually at great risk to herself, and she doesn’t stop until the job’s done and they are safe. This is definitely my favorite series and I’m always thrilled when a new book comes out so I can see what happens next with this awesome character and her friends.

  6. Owen’s my favorite. He is just the type of person you want in your life.
    Thanks for the giveaway :)

  7. Gin is most definitely my fave character! She’s a bad-ass and she would do anything to protect the people she loved. I also love the fact that even though she messes up sometimes, her heart is always in the right place :)

Thanks for the giveaway! Hope I win :)

  8. My favorite character is Gin. She is the most interesting character so far, but I have only read the first book as of yet. I am about to start the second one this week. I am very interested to see which direction that Ms. Estep takes the series since it can really go in many different directions right now

  9. Gin is interesting. She’s tough, bad but she also has a tender side. It’s a nice blend that I can connect with.

  10. If by elemental you mean the power and not necessarily the character I think I like Electra LaFleur. Electricity as a elemental would rock!

Stone is nice, Ice is great, and even Air is great if I wanted to be a healer.. but bizzzttt. I just like the electricity best.

  11. My favourite character is one who died early in the series: Fletcher Lane. He is gone, but very much not forgotten as Gin thinks/talks about him a lot throughout the series. We keep learning more and more about the man who took Gin in and taught everything she needed to know about being a kick-ass assassin. He provided her with the tools and the team she needed, as well as the home and the grounding she needed growing up, and even after he is gone. Sure, she is an assassin but he also fostered a strong sense of right and wrong in her. He also gave her Finn, who is a bit of a lecher, but also a great support (though he better be good to Bria).

  12. while I love Gin for being so kick-ass, my favorite character is Finn. I really love everything about Finn. Love how he is sexy and snarky at the same time.
