Covers…that’s all I have at the moment

I have no clue where SciFiGuy found this, but I so can’t wait for this book!  Never After features fairy tales with a feminist twist, all from the minds of Laurell K Hamilton, Yasmine Galenorn, Marjorie Liu and Sharon Shinn.  Talk about a great collection of authors.  Never After is due to release October 27, 2009.  Other than Galenorn’s story (which SciFiGuy has the info on), nothing is known about the others, but I have a good feeling about them.

Weeeee…..Jeaniene Frost has a release date for First Drop of Crimson, a Night Huntress spinoff novel!!  First Drop of Crimson will be released January 26, 2010 and will focus entirely on Spade (aka Charles), Bones trusty friend from his penal colony days.  And for those who are not members of the Frost Cemetery (and why not, we get all the cool things first), Jeaniene has posted a snippet of First Drop of Crimson up at her blog.

Interviews:

Ilona Andrews has officially announced the title for Kate Daniels 4.  It will be called Magic Bleeds and it’ll be out sometime in June.  She’s not talking about this June is she??  I’m thinking it’s June 2010, but one can hope that it’s this year.  I guess this date was pushed back, but that’s good for us since they have not pushed back the release date on Kate 5.  When I originally said that Kate 4 was going to be Magic Mourns, I was wrong.  I thought the topic was Kate 4, but Ilona was actually talking about her novella in the upcoming anthology Must Love Hellhounds, which is titled Magic Mourns and features Andrea and Raphael – that is due out in September.

Meljean Brook is starting something new over at her blog and it has to deal with the Cover Cafe contest.  Basically, and I do have to agree with her, the covers for this years contests aren’t all that great and Meljean is going to be reminding everyone to nominate covers for next years contest and she’ll be giving out her picks.  Honestly, when I was over at the Cover Cafe contest, there wasn’t that many covers that caught my interest (although Jeaniene Frosts’ At Grave’s End is nominated and you know I voted for that one), so I might have to join Meljean is reminding people to nominate their favorite covers.  In fact, I just went and nominated a few myself – Ghostland and Spider Touched by Jory Strong, Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost and Demon Forged by Meljean Brook (and no I’m not sucking up or anything, the cover is hot) and Deadly Desire by Keri Arthur – and that’s just what I could think of on the fly.

Kmont over at Lurv a la Mode has a new author for us. N.K. Jemisin’s first novel, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, has an amazing cover and it so caught my eye when I saw it.  Doesn’t this cover look amazing?  Its not slated to come out until 2010, but Kmont is already telling us that there’ll be two more novels in this new series – The Bright God’s Bane and The Broken God’s Get.  Kmont has the scoop, so make sure you head over and check it out.

CONTEST ALERTS:
I’m not sure when it ends, but Book Roast is giving away a copy of Jeri Smith-Ready’s Bad to the Bone. Since there is no time limit, I would head over now.

SciFiGuy has an extra ARC of Gena Showalter’s upcoming YA novel, Intertwined, and he’s giving it away.  You have until midnight on May 26th to enter.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’d love to join your new author challenge. Since half the year is almost gone already, I think I’ll try for 10 books.

  2. I saw that LKH anthology cover yesterday..I had not heard of this book yet!

I can not wait for First Drop of Crimson! I read on a blog somewhere that has already read Destined for an Early Grave and said it was the best book yet:)

Magic Bleeds sounds WAY too far away!! Have you read the prologue for it? She has it posted on her blog.

  3. LOL..don’t think I am crazy..I was just scrolling through and noticed that this is the blog I saw the Destined for an Early Grave review. Sorry! My coffee is still brewing;)

  4. I didn’t know of that Anthology coming! Not sure if its a trade size? Seems a odd price to be a mass market or a trade size ($9.99) I have read Marjorie Lui, and she has a great Urban Fantasy as well as Paranormal romance books. I’ve heard, but never read Sharon Shinn. Love Frost’s books! Thanks for all these updates!! Off to check this all out. Love it here! Thanks!
