Pride by R. Vincent

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to read the fourth Werecat novel by Rachel Vincent. Pride was fabulous!

I’m on trial for my life. Falsely accused of infecting my human ex-boyfriend—and killing him to cover up the crime. Infecting a human is one of three capital offenses recognized by the Pride—along with murder and disclosure of our existence to a human.

I’m two for three. A goner.

Now we’ve discovered a rogue stray terrorizing the mountainside, hunting a wild teenage tabbycat. It’s up to us to find and stop him before a human discovers us. With my lover Marc’s help, I think I can protect the vulnerable girl from both the ambitious rogue and the scheming of the territorial council.

If I survive my own trial…

Just when I thought Vincent couldn’t get any better, she goes and blows my mind with Pride.  Seriously.  This book completely captivated me and I stayed up until 2am the other night to finish it.  I couldn’t put this down.  Considering Faythe is on trial for something she unintentionally did, she continually gets herself in trouble with the other Alphas in Pride.  Logically, everything she does wouldn’t be that bad except for the fact that she didn’t get permission from the old-fashioned Alphas that are overseeing her trial.  She’s a modern tabby, while they are definitely from an older way of life and one is definitely out for blood.  Through it all, Faythe shows us that she can suck it up to survive and play with the boys until they mess one the one thing in her life she doesn’t want changing.  The end of Pride is left with a slight cliffhanger, but the ramifications of the ending will definitely make for an extremely interesting read when Prey comes out on July 1st and I’m really going to have a hard time waiting for it.

The only thing I’m really curious about that showed up in Pride is something that is kind of spoilerish, so I’m not going to mention here.  However, I will be asking Rachel about it during the interview on June 23rd, so make sure you stop by to see what I’m talking about.

Overall, I am loving this series.  There is just something about it that instantly grabs your attention and it doesn’t let go until you finish.  We have amazingly strong characters that are fascinating to read that it’s hard to not become emotional attached to them.  Pride was the first novel that made me cry, that had all my emotions so entangled with the characters, that I couldn’t help but be there with them through the joys and sorrows.  Seriously, the Werecat novels continually get better and better and you really should be reading them.
