Full Blooded by Amanda Carlson

ACarlson-Full Blooded

ACarlson-Full BloodedI met the wonderfully fab Amanda Carlson while at the Authors After Dark and as a featured blogger, LE got a few extra perks, namely some ARCs.  One of those was Amanda’s Full Blooded.  Since I had the pleasure of meeting with her, when I was looking through my stack of books and trying to decide which one to read, I immediately picked up Full Blooded. (Also, it came highly rec’d by some other blogger friends *G*).  Oh man….what a ride! Full Blooded was full out made of awesome.

Born the only female in an all male race, Jessica McClain isn’t just different—she’s feared. After living under the radar for the last twenty-six years, Jessica is thrust unexpectedly into her first change, a full ten years late. She wakes up and finds she’s in the middle of a storm. Now that she’s become the only female full-blooded werewolf in town, the supernatural world is already clamoring to take a bite out of her and her new Pack must rise up and protect her.

So the blurb does not give Full Blooded appropriate justice. You’d think one of these days I’ll quit trying to judge a book based on a blurb.  I mean, it’s an OK blurb, but “middle of a storm” so doesn’t cover the fallout of Jessica’s change. Full Blooded basically begins as Jessica is going through her first shift…alone.  Uh yeah, chaos ensues and the action starts. Seriously, from page one, the action is all go go go. If you know me, then you know that action packed is how I like my books *G*.  I really did not want to put Full Blooded down and the only reason I did was I started reading the day I got home from AAD (we got in the wee hours Monday morning) and I had to actually go to bed and get some sleep since I had to return to work on Tuesday. I kind of wasn’t amused at having to postpone reading Full Blooded.

Jessica is well…until she shifted…your average twenty something girl, at least as far as personality goes.  She has a job (well it’s kind of normal…she’s a PI but her partner is a werefox…), her own apartment, you know… a life independent of her father (mother is deceased).  She seems pretty down to earth and once she shifted she wants to fight tooth and nail to attempt to keep some of that normalcy.  Well, you can guess at how well that turns out.  Her secret, it turns out, really was never a secret, despite the fact that she had to assume a new identity.  Her Pack never thought she’d shift since she didn’t while she was a teen, but just in case she ever did, her father (the Alpha) did his best to protect her by getting her a new ID to live under.  Weeeeeelll…that didn’t really work.  Yeah that’s a slight spoiler but the fact that apparently lots of people were watching and waiting is key to all the action and chaos that takes place.  A huge part of the plot line is figuring out who all either found out or had been watching Jessica all these years. There does become a clear hero, but i’m kind of afraid to go there right now because even saying who this person is would be a pretty big spoiler.  Let’s just say that you’ll have mixed feelings about him, potentially.  Who he is and the part he plays in everything will heavily play into the storyline of the next book.  The ending is a slight cliffhanger and will leave you wanting book 2 stat.  No more info, sorry…too big of a spoiler to say anything else *wink*.

I can’t say enough good things about Full Blooded. I am dying to get my hands on the next book, which sadly won’t be out until spring 2013.  I’m so not a patient person ha ha…I wantz it now, and once you’ve finished Full Blooded, I have no doubt that you’ll feel the same.
