I have some fabulous things in the work here at LE. Well, the most recent one is the SCHOOL’S IN event which is featuring 30 different authors who are celebrating August and September releases. I do have a recently started project that I’m super excited about. I don’t want to go into too much detail about it, because I want it to be a surprise for one. Let’s just say it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile and I’m finally getting the chance to. I’m hoping I’ll be able to share it next week, but we’ll see.
In the next week or so, LE will be searching for two new readers to join the team. We are looking for one to review strictly fantasy (high, dark, ya, etc – just not urban) and science fiction (all subgenres) and a second for urban fantasy and paranormal romance to come on as full time reviewers. That means 4-5 reviews per month, with one being due each week. I’ll be posting the full requirements soon (I wanted to get the newsletter up first), but if you’ve been thinking about reviewing or know someone who wants to, keep your eyes on LE for the posting to go live in the next couple of days.
For those wondering, I know I posted for a SF/F reviewer earlier this summer, but various issues made it an inopportune time to bring someone on. Now that school is back in session, some of that time has freed up, so Nicole and I will be able to give each applicant the time they deserve.
I’ve contacted the winners for the Kira Brady, Linda Grimes and Saranna DeWylde contests and they are:
- Hearts of Darkness – Maureen F, who said Run. Definitely run. I (unlike most of the others) would not bring a weapon because I’d likely hurt myself more than whoever’s attacking me so I’ll need lock picks, a first aid kit, and a thick jacket with lots of pockets because Seattle can get pretty cold and pockets are always useful.
- In a Fix – ErinF1, who said I think of each book I read as an out of body experience. My hope is to be drawn completely into the story through the characters. Don’t particularly have a favorite type…
- How To Lose a Demon in 10 Days – Barb P, who said I’m sorry, I have to go with my real life hero, and that would be my 20 year old son. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at the age of 6. Life has been pretty difficult for him, but bless his heart, no matter what happens or what people say to him or about him, he keeps on going. He is now in college with a 3.7 GPA and he just keeps at it with so much determination. I am so proud of him! He is my hero!
If anyone has an LE button posted anywhere, or wants one, I’ve posted a couple of updated versions in the site images folder on Facebook. These include the spacey background as well as the new tagline on one of them.
One last thing, I’ve been getting some questions and I wanted to say – BLACK FRIDAY will return in November! It seems the event was popular last year, so I’ll be doing it again and will start working on it when SCHOOL’S IN concludes.

Karen Mahoney has some fabulous news. For those of us in the US who won’t be able to get a copy of her new novel, Falling to Ash (because the US Pubs haven’t bought it yet), we will be able to get more of Moth via Moth Tales, a new web comic series by Karen and Candace Ellis. The first episode starts September 19th and will begin appearing every Monday and Friday.
Anne Bishop is starting a new series! Written in Red is a new series featuring vampires and shapeshifters (so something totally different than her Ephemera and Black Jewels series) and will be released March 2013.

For those of us in Michigan, the Grand Rapids Region Writers Group is developing a writers conference and will be having a multi-author signing on November 3rd. The attending author list hasn’t been posted yet, but it does show that Colleen Gleason will be this years keynote speaker. The Ready, Set Write Conference still seems to be setting up their page, but after some browsing I noticed that Jennifer Armintrout is also schedule to appear. I’ll be keeping my eyes on this one as it might be a good place to see a bunch of local authors.
Tez Says found a few new author deals including a new erotic trilogy by Andrea Cremer.
Andrea Cremer‘s adult erotic trilogy to Dutton (World). Set within the Nightshade world of the author’s YA books, about the lives, passions, and betrayals of lovers whose very desires invite their dooms. The first book is scheduled for October 2013.
For fans of Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series, the third book now has a title and a release date. Entwined With You will be out December 31, 2012 – so not as long of a wait between books two and three as there was for one and two.
While updated the new release page, I noticed that the preorder link for another hot title went live on Amazon – Lover At Last by JR Ward, the next Black Dagger Brotherhood novel that features our favorite couple, Blay and Qhuinn.
Fantastic news for fans of Kelley Armstrong. Bell Media just announced that Bitten is getting made into a 13 hour drama for the television station Space in Canada. That means we’ll be getting some live Clay & Elena action! Now if only we can get it in the US. Speaking of Armstrong, have we seen the back cover blurb for Melissa Marr and Kelley Armstrong’s upcoming Loki’s Wolves?
In Viking times, Norse myths predicted the end of the world, an event called Ragnarok that only the gods can stop. When this apocalypse happens, the gods must battle the monsters—wolves the size of the sun, serpents that span the seabeds—all bent on destroying the world.

I even have some Nadia news for you. Fans of Armstrong’s Nadia Stafford series will be happy to hear that a third yet to be named novel will be released in 2013.
Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Beautiful Creatures is currently in production for the silver screen and Screen Crush is sharing a glimpse of the leading characters and a few details.
Jaye Wells has some fabulous news. She’s sold a new series and has been contracted for three novels. There will also be two new Sabina Kane e-novellas
The PROSPERO’S WAR series focuses on an ambitious cop, named Kate Prospero, whose goal is to rid the streets of the covens that sell addictive dirty magic. I pitched it to Orbit as “The Wire with wizards.” The first book will be titled DIRTY MAGIC (Fall 2013).
Rachel Vincent has revealed the cover for her third Bound novel, Oath Bound, as well as the blurb.

From the Reader
I’m getting excited for Arrow to premiere on the CW on October 10th. There’s already news leaking about which other superheroes will be making an appearance. The Huntress is a go and the idea of a Bruce Wayne/Batman appearance has risen since the Nolan Trilogy is now done. I want to say the other superhero confirmed to make an appearance is Black Canary, but don’t quote me on that. I can’t find the article any more. Is anyone else getting excited?
Parajunkee’s latest edition of Book Blogging 101 polled over 200 Book Bloggers, asking some hot topics about their own blogging experiences and her results are kind of surprising. The topics include Blog Size, Pageviews & Advertising Myths (everyone does understand the difference between page views and visitors, right?), Handling Reviews, Authors & Posts (negative reviews area must IMO) and Blogger Behaviors, Drama & Social Networking (33% of bloggers don’t use facebook?).
The Galaxy Express has a bunch of great news for any science fiction romance lover, including the news that Carina Press will be launching a serial by Zaide Bishop in 2013 that will consist of each episode having 20k-30k words.
Jennifer Armintrout has been reviewing Fifty Shades Darker, the second novel in the Fifty Shades series and they’re quite humorous to read. Here are the recaps for Chapter One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven and Eight.
Stumbling Over Chaos has another fabulous edition of Misadventures in Stock Photography and this time we’re getting another dose of Pouty Guy.
Stainless Steel Droppings has started it’s annual R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VII Reading Challenge. RIP is a great challenge as it runs for two months and features books and movies/television that could be classified (by you) as: Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror, Supernatural or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above. This is one challenge that I try to do every year, but I don’t think I’m going to make it this year. However, if you can do it, DO IT!
Did you know that if you @reply someone on Twitter, it doesn’t show up to the world? You always hear how anything said on Twitter is very public, but maybe not everything. Rule #6 – If you begin your tweet with @username it will be a reply and will only be viewable to people that follow you and that person. It will show up on your profile page, but your follower stream will not be able to see it. If you want the rest of the world to see the tweet — stick a character in front. A lot of people will use a period.
I so did not know that. I have so been tweeting wrong then! If you’re a new blogger or are thinking about becoming one, make sure you bookmark Parajunkee’s View. Her Blogging 101 tips are so informative that I have yet to not learn something new. I especially wish she had been around when I first started and I had the chance to read her My Best Advice To New Bloggers post.
Did you miss the chance to head to New Orleans for the Authors After Dark convention earlier this month? The AAD blog has collected a bunch of the various author recaps, so if you want to hear how it was, here’s a bunch of opinions for you. If you want to go next year to Savannah, Georgia (I’ll be there with both monkeys!), registration is now open. It’s a little pricer this year, but still not as bad as RT.
Author Appearances
During August, I really slacked on the news posts and that was a really bad thing for all the author interviews and guests posts. There were 107 different authors who visited various sites last month and many of those authors visits more than one site. So instead of adding a lengthy list to this month’s newsletter (and in an effort to get it out a little quicker), I’m not going to list all the ones from the last news post here. They have all been added to the master list, which has been posted on Facebook. To point out how many appearances there were in August, Facebook wouldn’t let me put them all in one note. Whaaat! That’s never happened before. So this month’s listing of author interviews and guest articles have been separated into two parts – LE posts and Authors A – J and Authors K – Z.
