Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione

LIone-Rogue Rider

LIone-Rogue RiderI have been dying for Reseph’s book, Rogue Rider, the latest Lords of Deliverance novel by Larissa Ione. To say I was salivating to see how Larissa was going to be able to redeem this sexy Horseman is a slight understatement *wink*. Rogue Rider was completely awesome, yet was not what I expected either. And no, unexpected does NOT equal bad, it was just…well…unexpected *G*.

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he’s also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian’s life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian’s neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he’s putting Jillian in danger. And once it’s revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

I fell for Reseph back before he turned into Pestilence…in Sin Undone (or maybe Eternal Rider…hmm I think it’s time for a re-read!!). Ever since our sweet, fun loving Reseph went bad and became Pestilence I was itching to see how Larissa was going to undo it and save him. What was partly unexpected happens back in Limos’ book, Lethal Rider, which if you’ve read, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Rogue Rider picks up where Lethal Rider ends, which had to happen.

Guys, Rogue Rider is still a romance, so you know the HEA is coming and while it may be a spoiler, I don’t think saying that you know Reseph will be redeemed is too big of an issue to spoil. It’s the how, and really, the who. Jillian is the key and she wasn’t what I expected her to be in many ways. She was much more accepting of things than I figured she would be…it’s hard for me to discuss her and how she comes to meet Reseph without completely spoiling Lethal Rider and the beginning of Rogue Rider for you. Jillian has her own sordid past…a fight with some nasty demons who nearly killed her…to deal with. She’s brave, loving and completely what Reseph needed. Except, well, she could have used more of a sense of humor. Reseph used to be fun loving and carefree. While after everything he’s been through, I didn’t expect him to be that way 100%, but that is one part that left me sad. He was too tormented still, and to me, part of what he needs from his heroine is help in finding that side. I’m hoping that happens more off screen in the next book. I’m hoping that we’ll see more of that side of Reseph with the help of Jillian and Limos.

Rogue Rider was very well written. I am a big fan of Larissa’s writing style. It’s action packed, easy to follow/read and there aren’t flow issues. She also does an excellent job of weaving in details that not only further the overall series arc but very nicely sets up the story arc for the next book. For the Lords of Deliverance series, it will be Reaver’s book and I believe that will be the series finale. Larissa did a fantastic job of setting up events for the main plot point for Reaver’s story.

Also, just like with Lethal Rider, Rogue Rider has a HUGE HUGE revelation. There’s been this ongoing mystery regarding parentage of the Horseman. It gets resolved and heck NO I am so not telling you. I honestly didn’t expect to find out until the final book, but you do get it now. I can’t say more for fear that any further comment will give it away. You will love it though!

I LOVED Rogue Rider. It was great seeing Reseph battling his own demons (literally and figuratively) and making his way back towards his old self. Rogue Rider isn’t nearly as steamy/hot as the previous novels, so don’t be disappointed. However, this makes sense when you think about it. The focus is more on saving Reseph and his emotional and mental connection with Jillian and not so much on the physical. The physical is sometimes more of just a compassionate touch. There is sex and steam, just not as “hot” as the others. And one final warning, he will break your heart at times…If you enjoy Lords of Deliverance, I promise you Rogue Rider will not disappoint and you’ll love getting to see Reseph battle his way back.
