SWalker-All the Time in the World

News from LE

ALaine-Silent EchoesYou would think the School’s In feature would be the first thing on my mind, but it isn’t. Nope. I just heard about feedburner going away….what?! I don’t know what rock I’ve been under, but I guess the Feedburner API will be turned off on October 20th, so anyone subscribe to LE via email will probably no longer find LE in your inbox as of the 20th. Therefore, I’ve been messing with MailChimp, putting together a new email subscription client. I have the new client all set up (and the emails will be a little prettier this time too), so don’t be surprised if you receive an email from me soon about this whole thing. If you want to make sure you get on the new list, here’s the handy subscription form:

I guess this is a good time for you to re-evaluate if you want to follow LE or not, but I hope you’ll continue to do so. I know I’m having a blast and I hope you guys are enjoying it as well.

Now on to what I should be talking about – SCHOOL’S IN. All the contests are still open and going strong. You have until midnight on October 8th (that’s this coming Sunday) to enter any or all of the 29 contests (12 open to the US/CA and 17 open worldwide).

Speaking of events, now that School’s In is winding down, I’ve turned my attention to the upcoming Black Friday event that starts on, surprise surprise, Black Friday. Then I got to wondering. Do you like seeing the blog events? Is there something you wish would change or get more of?  I want to make sure that these events are doing what they should – introducing new and entertaining old readers to new authors. So I’m curious to see what everyone thinks about all the blog events that have gone around and I’m giving away a copy of Thirteen by Kelley Armstrong to those who answer. But don’t fear – Black Friday will be returning. *grin*

Just over a week ago, I put out a call for reviewers to join LE. I’ve gotten a couple of responses and Nicole and I are looking through them now. Some of you may have already received a response and I hope you’re still interested after what was sent back. *grin* If you haven’t heard from us yet, you will by the end of the week, so stay tuned. *grin*

Book News

KGriffin-Allegiance SwornLauren Dane has a new facebook page. If you’re a fan of her previous one, make sure you jump over here to keep updated as she’ll be deleted the old one soon.

Wicked Scribes has found the cover copy of Shana Abe’s The Sweetest Dark (April 9, 2013), which is the beginning of a new series.

Lora Jones has always known that she’s different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora’s been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she’s far more than what she seems.

England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England’s southern coast. Iverson’s eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.

Jesse is the school’s groundskeeper—a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she’s only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.

Ilona Andrews has begun an online serial, titled Clean Sweep, and will be updating it periodically.  I’m not really sure if Clean Sweep is a part of their already established worlds, but it looks like the story is going to be a part of the Innkeeper Chronicles.

This month, Karen Mahoney unveiled something extremely fun. Moth Tales is a new web comic based on her fabulous new series, Falling to Ash (which still needs a US Publisher, who wants it?). I’m loving seeing Moth in living color and the first four episodes are primed – One, Two, Three, Four and Five – so you haven’t missed much if you haven’t gotten over there yet.

Richelle Mead has been a little quiet lately, but she recently came out with a glimpse into her new adult novel, Gameboard of the Gods, as well as the expectant release date of June 2013.

Religious extremists released a virus that wiped out half the world’s population and plunged it into chaos. A hundred years later, some places have recovered better than others, including a high tech new country formed out of pieces of the former US and Canada (I’m pretty sure it’s only a matter of time before our countries unite anyway). After its troubled past, this country has an understandably wary attitude toward religion. It goes out of its way to dismantle most religious groups and debunk any claims of the mystical or paranormal. My hero is an uber charismatic guy who helps carry out that agenda for the government. My heroine, who hangs out with him, is a former Finnish debutante who’s now a kind of super soldier. Unfortunately, denying that the supernatural exists gets a little hard when it starts following them around…

Plus, Mead mentions we’ll not only get Bloodlines #3, Indigo Spell, next year, but Bloodlines #4 as well.

For fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone, good news. According to EW.com, Dreamworks has picked up the movie rights with David Heyman (who was behind the Harry Potter franchise) producing and overseeing it.  In related news, the second novel in the Grisha trilogy, Siege and Storm, will be out June 2013. The final novel will come out the following summer.

Cat Winters has a fabulously sounding book coming out in April 2, 2013. In the Shadow of Blackbirds takes place during the first World War, but it also includes haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs…set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?

Katie MacAlister has unveiled the new series she is working on, which will kick off with Time Thief on May 7, 2013.  MacAlister says the series involves my version of Travellers, a group of people who can literally steal time.

Diana Pharaoh Francis has fabulous news. Her Crosspointe Chronicles (The Cipher, The Black Ship, The Turning Tide and The Hollow Crown) and Path (Path of Fate, Path of Honor and Path of Blood) novels are undergoing treatment so they can be put up on Audible.com.

Science Fiction.com has the story that Jessica Shirvington’s Embrace has a scripts in the works for CW, written by Bill Laurin and Glenn Davis. There’s no word on when a pilot might be planned, but there’s more than just talk on this one.

New Excerpts or Reading for Free

DKrokos-False SightDiana Rowland posted the first chapter of her next Kara Gillian novel, Touch of the Demon, due out December 31st,  recently on facebook. (FYI, it’s a PDF link, so a pop-up window will occur).

At the time of this post, Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs is currently available for free at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I’m not sure how long this will last, so get it while you can!

Karen Marie Moning has posted an excerpt from her Fever spinoff, Iced, which releases later this month.

Tor.com has posted the first chapter from Robert Jordan’s A Memory of Light, which will hit shelves in January.

Lauren Dane has posted an excerpt from her newly released Brown Siblings novel, Laid Open, which is only $2.99 so you really should just go get it (if you’ve read Laid Bare, if not, go get that one). Here’s a few more from her Brown Siblings novels: Ben, Todd and Erin from Laid Bare, currently available; Gillian from Never Enough, which is also available; Elise from Coming Undone, which is available; Erin and Ben from Laid Open, which releases; Browns & Copelands from Inside Out, which is available; and this last one isn’t a Brown Siblings, but features a Chase sibling from Making Chase, currently available as well. Dane has also posted an excerpt, plus a second one featuring Erin, from her new Delicious novel, Tart. Dane has posted a snippet from her new release, Once and Again. Dane has also posted a snippet from her latest Bound by Magick novel, Chaos Burning.

Allison Pang has posted the first chapter to her upcoming novel, A Trace of Moonlight, which releases on the 30th.

Shiloh Walker’s All The Time in the World, the story of how Greta and Rip hooked up, is available for free at Amazon and most ebook retailers.  Shiloh has also posted an excerpt from her upcoming romantic suspense, The Protected, which is due out.  Walker has also posted a snippet from her upcoming release, Stolen, which will be out October 20th.  Walker has also posted the prologue to her next Grimm Circle novel, Blind Destiny, which will be out in October. Shiloh Walker has posted a couple of snippets from a few of her upcoming novels: a new RS WIP which does not have a release date yet; her second Blade novel, Night Blade, which is due out next year.

Sara Humphrey’s upcoming release, Undenied, can currently be preordered for free. This is for the ebook, and I’m assuming the print version will be available at full retail price, so now would be the time to get it.

Here’s another free ebook alert – Estevan Vega’s Arson is currently available for the Kindle.

Kim Harrison has released her short story, Pet Shop Boys, for $.99 as an ebook, which will also be in Harrison’s upcoming collection, Into the Woods, which comes out October 9th.

JC Daniels is offering up two snippets from her second Colbana Files novel, Night Blade, which will be released early next year.

Featured Book: All The Time in the World by Shiloh Walker

SWalker-All the Time in the WorldGreta doesn’t play well with others…never has. And although it might be nice to have somebody there with her to break up the monotony of her life, she knows better than to let herself get close. Life has taught her that lesson the hard way…nothing is ever simple, and people bring complications she just doesn’t need.

But she’s a soldier in an army—a rather unique one—and when her partner, Rip, goes down in the line of duty, there’s no question of what she has to do. Stay with him, nurse him back to health…admire that nice, long…no, no, no…that’s not part of the job description at all.

Too bad she can’t seem to help herself.

Warning: This is a short story, only a short story, about two naughty guardian angels who start to fall for each other, in a very big way. (Originally published in the The Mammoth Book of Hot Romance)

She’s currently on the thirteenth chapter of Fifty Shades Darker, but if you’ve missed any, you can find all the previous chapters here.

Okay, I have to be honest…I’m kind of getting excited for the last Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn Part 2. Especially after watching the new trailer. The Cullens are going to fight the Volturi!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
