The Turning & Possesion by J. Armintrout

I came across a new author the other day and I’m not entirely sure what I think of her books yet. Jennifer Armintrout has a series called Blood Ties. The first book in the series is called the Turning and it introduces us to the main character – Dr. Carrie Ames. The story is how Dr. Ames was transformed into a vampire and her conflicting emotions between her sire and another vampire. The second novel, Possession, really has nothing to do with the first novel. It continues Dr. Ames story, but that is about it. So maybe having nothing to do with the first book is a bit off; it’s more that both plot lines are not connected so you have two new stories where you really are not missing anything from reading either book. What I mean is I didn’t feel that I had to have read the Turning in order to understand what was going on in Possession. I’m not sure if that is good or not, but I am going to read the third novel, Ashes to Ashes, when it comes out later this year. This is a good series to borrow from the library to see if you like it, but I would definitely read it before you buy it.

On a side note, the author is from southwest Michigan and stages the books in the Grand Rapids area. Since I’m from the area, that was kind of nice, but she really didn’t use that many landscapes that told me it was Grand Rapids.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
