Ebooks for Charity

Antho-Entangled

As a reader, there’s nothing I like better than a good anthology. They are perfect for when time is limited and you want a complete story or if you just want to try a new author that people are talking about. The only way to make an anthology better, in my mind, is when it involves a charity.

Last September, the anthology Entangled was released with the intent of donating proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Since then, it has sold over 5,400 copies and has earned more than $11,000 – all going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That’s fabulous and that can go even higher as more people learn about this fabulous collection of suspense-filled paranormal short stories (links go to our reviews):

  • Antho-EntangledHalloween Frost by Jennifer Estep
  • The Fat Cat by Edie Ramer
  • Medium Rare by Nancy Haddock
  • Sweet Demon by Misty Evans
  • Sian‘s Solution by Dale Mayer
  • A Bit of a Bite by Cynthia Eden
  • Sinfully Sweet by Michelle Miles
  • A Night of Forever by Lori Brighton
  • Feel the Magic by Liz Kreger
  • Breaking Out by Michelle Diener
  • Ghostly Justice by Allison Brennan

As this is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, if you haven’t had a chance to purchase the Entangled anthology, then I urge you to do so now. At only $2.99 (available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, All Romance Ebooks, etc), Entangled is a great deal and a great way of trying/finding a new author.

If you’re looking for more of a Mystery/Thriller or Science Fiction/Fantasy collection, then there are two sites you really need to hear about. The StoryBundle and the Humble Bundle are two sites that are currently offering a collection of novels at a Pay-What-You-Want basis and you even get to pick which charity, and how much of what you pay, goes to the authors, the charities or the Bundle sites themselves. The ebooks purchased through the StoryBundle and the Humble Bundle are all completely DRM free, so they’ll also work with any reader device you have.

For the next 13 hours (sorry, I’m just finding out about this one), the StoryBundle is offering a selection of crime and thriller titles by Greg Enslen, Paul O’Brien, Pete Morin, Erik Hanberg, Geoffrey Neil and Robert Lowe. Then on October 18th, the StoryBundle will be offering a great Halloween Horror collection featuring authors Joseph Nassise, Weston Ochse, Jon F. Merz, Patricia Fulton, Martin Kee, Annie Walls, Douglas Clegg and Kevin J. Anderson.  Proceeds from both of these bundles will be going to the MightyWriters and Trees for the Future charities.

For the next eight days, The Humble Bundle is offering stories by Cory Doctorow, John Scalzi, Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, Paolo Bacigalupi, Lauren Beukes, Mercedes Lackey and Kelly Link, with proceeds being divided between the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America and Child’s Play.

Right there is three (four if you act quickly) ways of getting your hands on a great collection of stories by a bunch of different authors, all while supporting some great charities.  So honestly, you really have no excuse not to purchase these novels, especially since you choose how much you’ll pay to get them.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
