No Reservations by Lilly Cain

LCain-No Reservations

LCain-No ReservationsWhile I simply adored No Reservations by Lillie Cain, I have one big complaint…that I want MORE! Seriously, No Reservations was only about 40 pages long…so likely about 10k words in length  **ok so I looked it up…it’s really 15k *wink*.  I went in thinking it was a full length novel, so I was pretty disappointed that all the fun came to an end so quickly.  That said, if you are in the mood for a fun, quick and smexy story, you totally should pick up No Reservations

Travis Morgan is thrilled to encounter the one woman who’s never failed to get his blood pumping. Seeing Alicia Davis again brings it all back: their fierce academic rivalry, and the fact that he never followed through on his erotic fantasies about her.

Alicia can’t resist Travis’s smoldering sensuality—or the opportunity to finally bed the man who starred in so many of her lustful daydreams in college. Unable to avoid the temptation to best Travis one more time, Alicia plans to submit to one night of pure pleasure and then leave Travis empty-handed and craving more.

When Travis wakes up and realizes Alicia’s played him, the gloves are off, and the game heats up as they each try to emerge on top—by whatever means necessary…

That blurb led me to believe I was going to get a fun, sexy story of these two chasing each other and give me some really good buildup to the super hot smexy time.  Well, while I didn’t get a lot of buildup, I certainly have no complaints about the super hot smexy time. There were several smexy scenes *G*.   But there is still a plot going on.  One that was super fast paced, really almost whirlwind at times.  I think that whirlwind feeling came from me expecting a much longer story.  I blame myself for that expectation.  I think if you go in knowing that things will move quite quickly due to the length of No Reservations, then things won’t seem so fast.  No Reservations starts out calmly enough, but almost as soon as Travis and Alicia meet back up after years of no communication, they’re falling into bed.  Normally I’m not a fan of things moving so swiftly…it isn’t realistic most of the time.  But given that this is a short story, it works.

I did enjoy the competitive nature of both Travis and Alicia.  I think had No Reservations been a full length novel, like I’d anticipated, the competitive natures would have ended up driving me nuts as it would have become a weakness if the games they ended up playing lasted too long. I’m not a fan of playing mind games and I think that would have happened, so I am glad No Reservations was as short as it was so it didn’t get to that annoying point.  I also thought it was fun to see both POVs–you get time from both Alicia and Travis’s POV.  Each of them wanted the other one for different, but yet similar reasons.  Both had regrets that they never hooked up back in college–but how Alicia viewed their acquaintance during college is completely different than how Travis saw things back.  It was fun to see them resolve that and learn what the other one had thought for so many years.

I highly recommend No Reservations. It was a terribly short (but awesome) story.  It’s a perfect read when you just have a few extra minutes and you need a really good story to just pass some time. It isn’t long, so it is just what one needs when you’re looking for something quick and easy to read to entertain and distract yourself with.
