Laid Open by Lauren Dane

LDane-Laid Open

LDane-Laid OpenI’ve been in a romance mood lately. I’m not sure what it is, but urban fantasy just hasn’t been doing it for me. Sadly, I’m picky when it comes to my romance too. I want a story to go along with all the sex, not 300 pages of orgasmic screaming. Thankfully, my copy of Lauren Dane’s Laid Open was delivered just when I needed it.

All she needed to pack was a few bikinis, a toothbrush and some sunscreen. This is what Ben told Erin when he presented her and Todd with tickets to Fiji and the promise of ten days of nothing but sleeping until whenever they wanted, sex without having to lock the door and lots of alone time.

And that’s what they have. Long days and nights filled with pleasure. Long enough that the stress and exhaustion drops away and the three can simply enjoy each other.

They’ve got heat. More than ever before. Recharging their batteries has also brought new levels of intimacy and connection. But when Erin stumbles over the pain of her past, both men band together to not only help her through, but to help each other as well.

Lauren Dane is an automatic read for me, especially her Brown Siblings series.  When I heard she was releasing a novella featuring the pair (or triangle) that started the series out, I got really excited. How often have you wondered if the problems a couple experiences when trying to get together, continued to plague them later on in their relationship? We all know a romance is suppose to have a Happy Ever After, but we rarely see what happens next. Granted, with series like the Brown, we do get to see the characters evolve, but only through the eyes of others. We don’t get to see the blood and sweat of making that relationship stay strong. Laid Open gives us the chance to see what has happened since Erin, Todd and Ben did get their HEA.

If you’re familiar with the series, we’ve seen them periodically in Coming Undone, Inside Out, Never Enough; but the troubles that plagued Erin in Laid Bare have never really been seen. That’s not the case with Laid Open. If you haven’t read Laid Bare, then I don’t want to spoil it for you, but I have to say that it makes sense that she’s not over it. She never will be and those black thoughts will always be a part of her.  If you have read Laid Bare, then I’m sure you can probably guess what’s going to cause the emotional trauma. Regardless, be prepared for a tear-jerking of a read, because Ben and Todd can’t do anything to help her but be there.

I’ve always been able to count on Dane to bring some hot and heavy chemistry, even in the midst of some very troubling situations, to the page and she doesn’t let me down this time either. The Brown Siblings is a fabulous series and Laid Open makes it even more obvious these characters are so fabulously developed that you can’t help but be emotional entangled with them. If you haven’t read Laid Bare yet, then I wouldn’t recommend picking up Laid Open.  You could as everything is pretty well explained, but you really don’t want to miss seeing how Todd, Ben and Erin end up together in the first place.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
