Bonds of Trust by Lynda Aicher

Bonds of Trust by Lynda AicherIt’s no secret that I am in lurrrrve with some BDSM themed contemporary/erotic romances lately.  So when I saw Bonds of Trust by Lynda Aicher, up for review on NetGalley, I knew I simply had to read it *G*.  I devoured it, despite the fact that the overall storyline is getting a bit…overdone.

After ending her passionless marriage, Cali Reynolds is eager to live out her forbidden fantasies. Her first step is attending new members’ night at The Den, the most exclusive sex club in town. Perhaps here she can find a man who understands her desire to be dominated….

At first, Jake McCallister thinks Cali has come to his club for the wrong reasons. But when he discovers she is seeking fulfillment after years of denial, he’s intrigued – and takes it upon himself to initiate her into the pleasures she’s been missing.

Her first encounter with Jake is everything Cali has always craved, and more; she’s not prepared for the feelings he inspires in her. And Jake is just as surprised by his overwhelming attraction to Cali. As their play intensifies, so does their bond. Now, Jake doesn’t want anyone but Cali – but is he ready to officially claim her? And will she submit to being his forever?

First let me explain what I mean by overdone with regards to the story-line.  We have super smexy and utterly delicious super Dom who just happens to be an owner (in this case, a co-owner) of one of the most exclusive BDSM club in a city.  Then we have a new submissive looking to whet her appetite and her feet into the super mysterious and terrifying world of BDSM, so what does she do? She applies and is accepted into said exclusive club.  See where I’m going with this?  There are several other novels with a similar plot-line.  Don’t get me wrong, they’re super hot reads and Bonds of Trust is no exception…but these are starting to fall just a bit flat for me.  I want something more, something less mainstream.  Maybe something more along the lines of Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners series…at least when it comes to my BDSM reading.

I did really enjoy the charisma and interactions between Jake and Cali.  They were all googly eyed for one another from the get-go…though it took Jake a bit to acknowledge it.  And of course (cause to me it’s kinda typical) Cali wanted to tuck it all away into this “I’m just a new submissive he’s showing around, he doesn’t really care for me” compartment…until well, she no longer could.  The chemistry is smokin’.  Also, each have their own demons to face and Cali’s unexpectedly knocks her in the face…and she freaks out.  Never fear, though…this is a romance so the bump does get smoothed out and all is well.

While I do feel the plot line is a bit overdone and redundant in today’s BDSM market, I really did enjoy Bonds of Trust.  If you’re new to BDSM themed stuff or just looking for something a bit different but still as “light” as 50 Shades, then I would highly suggest picking up Bonds of Trust. After all, who can/wants to say no to a super hot, super Dom? *wink*
