Release Me by J. Kenner

JKenner-Release meCalling all fans of 50 Shades of Grey trilogy.  Still looking for something similar (and much better written)? What about you Crossfire series fans? You needing to quench that thirst between releases?  Well, I have a new one for you…Release Me by J. Kenner (aka J. Kenner…just an FYI).  Holy hot and sexy businessman, batman!  I promise, if you liked 50 Shades or Crossfire, you’ll love Release Me.

He was the one man I couldn’t avoid. And the one man I couldn’t resist.

Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past—and risk breaking us apart.

But Damien was haunted, too. And as our passion came to obsess us both, his secrets threatened to destroy him—and us—forever.

Oh Damien. Yep, he is sexiness personified and I think may give 2 certain sexy businessmen a run for their money.  I admit, I have read the 50 Shades trilogy, but I am a fan of Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series and am in serious lust with Gideon.  But, after reading Release Me, I could take me some Damien Stark.  He’s young (and right around my age he he!) and personifies the super powerful and super confident businessman–just like I like ’em *wink*.  Like his counter parts in the series’s I’ve mentioned, Damien has a haunted past that still affects him. Then you have Nikki, a recent college graduate, looking to spread her wings…and still attempting to slough off her own haunted past and start anew.   So, to me, the story-line has been done.  But I have read Kenner’s other novels (she has quite a backlist between her pen names) and enjoy her writing style.  The pacing is quick and she is very easy to read.  And just because the story-line has been done (or in some people’s opinions, overdone) doesn’t mean it isn’t a good read.  I adored and devoured Release Me. The chemistry between Damien and Nikki was electric.  When they’re on page together, there is no one else.  I didn’t want to put it down.

There was at least 1 secondary character who I’d like to see more. Her name is Evelyn and is a former Hollywood agent and is a long time friend of Damien.  She seems to be your stereotypical hard ass broad.  She speaks her mind, doesn’t give a crap what anyone thinks and does as she pleases. She and Nikki had a budding friendship and I think, due to things from Nikki’s past, that Evelyn would a good role model and better  mother type figure.  I really hope to see more of this in the next book…and there better be a next book!

So if you’re salivating for some super sexy, really light on the BDSM and similar to some 50 Shades or Crossfire action, then go…run even…and pick up Release Me.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.  Kenner definitely hits the mark for this type of story-line.
