To round out 2012, each of us at LE have been hijacking the rants to show off all the books we would currently recommend (because we all know that list is constantly changing as we try new authors). Now that we’re down to the last week of the year (and the Mayans were wrong), we’re going to end it by showing you what we’re dying for in 2013.
There are a ton of great novels coming out in 2013, and sadly we can’t show off all of them. That list would be really long and you probably don’t want to stick around to see it all anyway. So we’re going to show you the one book (yup I made them choose one) that springs to our mind the most. That we’re just cannot wait to get our hands on. *grin* So let’s do this…
Although I’m way behind in this series, bad Nikki, I’m also excited about J.R. Ward’s Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood – March 26, 2013). I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this book! Quinn and Blay together at last! EEEEEE. I’m also excited to see how things are evolving for the Brotherhood and their fight with the Lessening Society. But Quinn and Blay together, yeah that’s something I have to read ASAP.
Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another….
Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.
Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions… but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together… finally become one.
The book I’m most excited about for 2013 would have to be is Circus of Blood (Deacon Chalk Occult Bounty Hunter) by James R. Tuck. Since I got a sneak peak at Blood and Magic, which also comes out in 2013, I’m going nuts wanting more. Thankfully I don’t have to wait that long, as Circus of Blood comes out in January. Nothing like ringing in the new year with a book full of ass whooping and crazy shape shifters hell bent on ruling the world if you ask me.
It is not often that I read series, but when I do I often eagerly ( and impatiently) await the next in the series. This couldn’t be truer than with the Untitled Lotus War Book 2 by Jay Kristoff. I read Stormdancer and can’t wait to see how this saga continues. Here’s just a snippet of my review for Stormdancer to see why I can’t wait for the Untitled Lotus War Book 2.
Though the backdrop of Japan is a gorgeous setting, which fills the hearts of steampunk and anime fans with glee, it is not the locale which most fascinated me. Instead, it was Kristoff’s emphasis on the punk of the steampunk genre. Ask many who write steampunk and they will comment that the punk aspect speaks to degradation of society in a post apocalyptic setting. Kristoff threw this concept out the window and embraced all aspects of punk culture. Stormdancer sets us up with this edgier understanding when it immediately shows us a telling trait of the setting – people are judged by the quality of their tattoos.
Gail Carriger has made a name for herself in the steampunk genre and I was quite sad when her Parasol Protectorate Series ended. Therefore it’s no surprise that I am waiting with bated breath to read her new adult series Parasol Protectorate Abroad which kicks off with Prudence in the fall.
There are a couple different books coming out in 2013 that I am eagerly awaiting. Yes, I can’t wait for Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs (coming out March 5th), but since Sunday I’ve thought of two others that I can’t wait for. Well, I thought of three, but there’s no cover or blurb available yet for Tempt the Stars by Karen Chance (Yea! More Mircea and Cassie in October!), so I really can’t talk too much about that other than it’s about time we get more of them. I think the book I’m really anticipating is Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead. I mean, c’mon! Who else is dying to see how Sydney reacts to that bombshell Adrian drops on her at the end of Golden Lily. I’m really hoping that Sydney makes Adrian twist in the wind a little (and I have a feeling she will), but I’m also hoping to see how Adrian reacts around Dimitri again to. Thankfully I won’t have to wait too long to see what happens since it comes out around my birthday in February.
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch–a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood–or else she might be next.
The other book I’m dying for is the next Hollows novel, Ever After, by Kim Harrison. Rachel has shaken up a lot of things in her world and I really love the shake-up Trent delivers at the hospital. Wait…am I a book behind? I hope not because I’m still waiting on that one night stand between Rachel and Trent – is anyone else? I really want that to happen, but who knows what will happen between now and the final book (which, sadly, is fast approaching). I already have my copy on hold at Nicola’s Books‘ for Harrison’s Jan 22nd signing, so now I just have to figure out how to get the day off so I can go super early and read it.
When I first started reading the I-Team series by Pamela Clare, I thought it would be just another romantic suspense series. Instead, they changed my life. No, seriously. Before reading this series, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was in high school, so it was acceptable, but I had to start thinking about what degree I should pursue in college. After reading about such strong heroines who were investigative reporters, I decided to take a mass communications class. From there, I joined the college’s student operated newspaper and realized I had found my calling. Without Pamela Clare and her I-Team series, I don’t think I would have found it. Not only am I dying to get my hands on Striking Distance, but I am looking forward to meeting the woman behind the curtains at RomCon this year.
TV reporter Laura Nilsson, known as the “Baghdad Babe,” spent eighteen months in an Al Qaeda compound after being kidnapped live on the air. Two years later, she’s still wondering why.
No rescue mission in Javier Corbray’s fourteen years as a Navy SEAL affected him the way Laura’s rescue did. No woman has stirred his protective instincts the way she has. And he wants her more than he’s ever wanted anyone.
As Laura and Javier’s passion ignites, so does Laura’s need to discover the mystery of her past. Especially when she learns that her abduction was not random—and that she’s still a target for a killer with an impenetrable motive. Now Javier will have to rely on his skills to keep the woman he loves from being struck down before she dares uncover the truth.
Michelle Rowen has been one of my favorite authors for years, so I’m always excited when she releases a new book. But I’m super, extra excited about her book Bled and Breakfast because *drum roll* I AM A CHARACTER IN IT! YES! ME! A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! I’m so excited that I’m telling everyone they need to read every book leading up to it. Because Bled and Breakfast is the second book in the second Sarah Dearly series. The first Sarah Dearly series was paranormal romance with a love triangle. In the second series, Sarah and her man are back and solving mysteries. And if you haven’t read any of the books, then Bled and Breakfast will be very spoilery.
I am so excited for Heart Fortune by Robin D. Owens even though I have to wait until August! Not only is this one of my favorite series but I love Robin D. Owens. Her world of Celta is always fun to visit and there are so many characters I’m looking forward to reading about. And Heart Fortune just means we are so much closer to Vinnie’s book! Heart Fortune can be read alone but it is the 12th in the series so if you want all the back stories then pick up the others!
Rogue Descendant by Jenna Black
Nikki Glass is back! I have to say the whole reason I’m looking forward to Rogue Descendant is that there is supposed to be more romance between Jamaal and Nikki! Finally! I’ve been waiting for this for the past two books. That little kiss in Deadly Descendant just didn’t cut it. Also, I love Greek Mythology so this whole series is right up my alley. Rogue Descendant is the third in the Nikki Glass series and you will have to read those for this to make sense.
