Deliver Me From Temptation by Tes Hilaire

THilaire-Deliver Me From Temptation

THilaire-Deliver Me From TemptationThere’s a saying that a sequel is never as good as the first book. For me, that’s true about half the time. I adored the first book in Tes Hilaire’s Paladin Warriors series, Deliver Me From Darkness, and I was super excited to read Deliver Me From Temptation. Except, this turned out to be one of those cases where I didn’t like the sequel as much. Deliver Me From Temptation by Tes Hilaire was just meh. Not bad, but nothing that made it extra special, if that makes sense.

When things go bump in the night, Logan bumps back. Vampires, demons, succubi—you name it, he’s fought it. His job as Paladin angel warrior is to protect humans. Not fall for one.

Detective Jessica Waters protects humans too-with her Glock and a good set of handcuffs. She doesn’t believe in fate. But if anyone looks like a gift from the gods, it’s Logan. And he clearly knows more about her case than he’s letting on…

My biggest problem with Deliver Me From Temptation was the heroine, Jessica, who had some serious anger management issues. The whole time I kept thinking that she was acting like a rouge cop; she was a hypocrite, constantly talking about the good of the law, and how everyone should obey the law. Yet, she was constantly bending, or even flat out breaking, the law so she could do whatever she wanted. I love a heroine intent on getting revenge and doing whatever it takes to beat the bad guys; but Jessica annoyed me because she never owned up to what she was doing.

I really loved Logan in Deliver Me From Darkness, and while I still loved him in Deliver Me From Temptation, I kept getting a feeling that this wasn’t all of Logan. I mean that there was more to him that we weren’t seeing. For example, there was this tension between Logan and his father but we (the readers) never got that back story. Nor did the tension explode into anything.

To me, most of the plot was just Jessica running around doing her own thing with Logan chasing after her, trying to get her to love him. There was some action, but not nearly enough to balance out all the angst.

Deliver Me From Temptation had potential to be really great, but I don’t think Ms. Hilaire really expanded where she could have. If there had been more Logan, more fighting, and less of Jessica being a hypocrite, then it would have been nearly perfect. At least, in my opinion. Even though I wasn’t that impressed with Deliver Me From Temptation, I am still intrigued by the overall world/plot and will absolutely be picking up book 3, Prince of Shadows.
