Have you seen one of these green boxes around? It showed up at my grocery store a couple months or so ago and I’m in love! It’s a place to donate used books and they (aka Better World Books) turns around and sells them to help fund literacy. How is that not awesome?!
To date, Better World Books has raised over $14.5 million for literacy, re-used or recycled over 146 million pounds of books – that’s over 100 million books – from landfills, created jobs for hundreds of people, and provided wonderful books to millions of readers worldwide. Some of the fabulous charities to have benefited from Better World Books are: Books for Africa, Room to Read, the National Center for Family Literacy, New Orleans Public Library Foundation and many other literacy partners.
And they have a program going on right now where every time you buy a book, they donate one to someone in need.
