Contest: Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

PBriggs-Frost Burned

It’s almost here! The next Mercy Thompson novel by Patricia Briggs, Frost Burned, releases on March 5th and thanks to the wonderful people at ACE, I have a copy to giveaway today.

PBriggs-Frost BurnedMercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Mercy Thompson series

PBriggs-Moon CalledMoon Called

Mercy Thompson’s life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she’s fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn’t exactly normal herself.

PBriggs-Blood BoundBlood Bound

Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

PBriggs-Iron KissedIron Kissed

I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator…

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape – but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her…

PBriggs-Bone CrossedBone Crossed

In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (“Booklist”), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for

PBriggs-Silver BorneSilver Borne

Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe. And now the leader of the werewolf pack, who’s maybe-more-than-just-a-friend, has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they’re all about to find out how implacable – and dangerous – the fae can be.

OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday…

River MarkedRiver Marked

Coyote shifter Mercy Thompson knows that life with her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will never be boring,, but even their wedding doesn’t go as planned. Nevertheless, a ten-day honeymoon camping on the banks of the Columbia River, alone, just the two of them, should make up for it. But the trip – and the pimped-out trailer they’re using – is courtesy of the fae. And nothing from the fae comes without strings attached…

Being a different breed of shapeshifter – a walker – Mercy can see ghosts, but the spirit of her long-gone father has never visited her. Until now. An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River – and innocent people are dying. As other walkers make their presence know to Mercy, she must reconnect with her heritage to exorcise the world of the legend known as the river devil…

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I think it must be vampires or the government, because the fae have kind of a truce thing going on with the werewolves since Charles and Anna helped them out. I think that the theory about the drug from moon called is a good one. Or it could be vampires holding a grudge and trying to get to Mercy by taking away the protection of her pack. We’ll see soon!

  2. Everyone has some great ideas and so I don’t feel very original when I suggest this but I’m going to go with…rogue werewolves. Or witches since witches don’t seem to be very Glinda-esque in this series.

  3. I think the government has them and wants to try to use them to infiltrate the fae compound. Adam is in pain because they are likely telling him that if he doesn’t cooperate they will go after Mercy and Jesse. Additionally, they are probably trying drugs on them to get them to cooperate and/or keep them confused.

  4. I think it is a rogue shadow group from the gov that took them and are wanting to try and use Adam’s pack to set up the wolves as scape goats for doing something to the fae. I think he is in pain because they want him to call Mercy either physically or thru the bonds and he is refusing. they need mercy because of her friendship with some of the fae in order to make the plan work.

  5. I believe it is the CNTRIP agency trying to continue prejudicing the world against preternaturals by setting the werewolves up in some scheme to discredit them. Mercy will be her usual fumbling, kickassed self and will save the day!

  6. I’m going to go with Rogue weres, I think. Or maybe government peeps since I do love a conspiracy theory or two every once in a while. :)

  7. I would love to win this book. I don’t really have a clue as to who would kidnap Adam and as much of the pack as they were able to grab. This is why I read the books and let Patricia Briggs write them. I’m sure it’s not anything obvious. Adam is in pain because of the drugs and that most of the pack members are drugged and captive.

  8. I think the now defunct gov agency of “cantrip” decided to take care of the wolves while they could since they lost the fey and were made for fools in chicago

  9. I’m SO excited about Frost Burned! :)

    My answers:
I think Adam and the pack have been kidnapped by a private military group, who could potentially be the puppets of the persecuted fae to try to change the status quo. I think pack is in pain because they’ve been dosed with the same silver drug that killed Mac in Moon Called :(. Nasty stuff.

    Mercy to the rescue!

  10. I think a group of humans that hunt the different ones and they found the formula to make the silver alloy that can be injected in the werwolves to cause pain.

  11. I’m guessing it was military/government, BUT they had to have magic of some kind on their side to get the entire pack at once, or an insider that’s a pack member…it has to be quite complex and have been planned for some time.

  12. Maybe a shady governmental agency drugged then kidnapped them. Now they torture them in order to get information about their dealings and interaction with the fae.

  13. I think its someone stupid! Its gota be military because they would love to get a weapon like a wolf.

  14. I think the government has detained his pack for testing & are threatening Mercy & Jesse. It doesn’t say that he’s in physical pain. O.O

  15. I think it’s a super secret branch of the government. One of the ones from fair game-
    Cantrip? Maybe?

  16. I have to go with the Fae. They’re always getting into something. As far as the pain, I’d assume torture. This author kind of loves to beat up on her characters ;)

  17. Kidnapped for some nefarious plot, drugged with something containing silver (pain) by rogue government agents.

Can’t wait to read this !!!!!

  18. I believe that it might be something to do with Coyote himself. :) As it says in River Marked…Coyote always brings chaos.
