Cleaning the Shelves Contest

I have way too many books sitting in my office and I can’t keep all of them (the hubby has been glaring at me since I’ve been asking for more shelves and he says no); but that’s good news for everyone else because I’m giving a couple of them away.  They are gently used, having been read once, but still in great condition.  Two of them are brand new releases and the third was released 6 months ago, so still fairly new.  So you ready to see what they are?

Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh (Psy-Changeling #6)
I found two copies at the grocery store when I went yesterday and snagged them both.  I’m keeping one (hel-lo…fabulous author here, have to keep one), but I’m giving the other one away.

Though DarkRiver sentinel Mercy is feeling the pressure to mate, she savagely resists when Riley Kincaid, a lieutenant from the SnowDancer pack, tries to possess her. The problem is not simply that he pushes her buttons; the problem is that he’s a wolf, she’s a cat, and they’re both used to being on top.But when a brilliant changeling researcher is kidnapped from DarkRiver territory, Mercy and Riley must work together to track the young man—before his shadowy captors decide he’s no longer useful. Along the way, the two dominants may find that submitting to one another uncovers not just a deadly conspiracy, but a passion so raw that it’ll leave them both branded by fire…

Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter (Alien Huntress #6)
I can’t keep all of the books I’ve been sent to review.

The war between otherworlders and humans changed Earth beyond recognition. It also saved Bride McKells’s life. Before, the gorgeous vampire was a target for every fanatic with a stake and a crucifix. Now she’s free to roam the streets—and desperate to find others of her kind. One man claims to have the answers she seeks. Devyn, King of the Targons, is a warrior and a womanizer, and he makes no secret of how much he wants Bride—and how dangerous he could be to her in every way.

An avid collector of women, Devyn easily seduces human and otherworlder alike. Until now. Not only does Bride resist him, but she leaves Devyn feeling something entirely new . . . a bone-deep need bordering on obsession. Her blood is the key to curing a vicious alien disease, but helping Bride uncover her origins will compel her to choose between electrifying passion and a destiny that could tear her from Devyn’s side forever.

At Grave’s End by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress #3)
This one is an ARC.  I have two copies and I really don’t need both of them.  The funny thing is, I don’t think its been read.  I won it through a contest and it arrived after it was released and I bought it that day.

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself – and Bones – from a fate worse than the grave.

Three books.  Three Winners.  Enter for each one or just for one, it’s your choice.  For each novel you want to try for, answer the corresponding question.

  1. Branded by FireWhat’s your favorite shapeshifter?  What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?
  2. Seduce the DarknessWhat’s your favorite novel involving aliens?  If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick?
  3. At Grave’s EndIntroduce us to a new vampire.  We’re all familiar with Kisten, Bones, Jean-Claude, but who have we missed?  Who should we be reading?

The contest is open to everyone, so everyone overseas can join in the fun as well.

As always, if you want more chances to win, you can post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer (in the same post). The more places you share it, the more entries you get.

For more entries, purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: myjaxon AT gmail DOT com.  Showalter, Frost and Singh purchases will go towards that book.  If you purchase an author besides these three, make sure you tell me which novel it’s going towards.  Each purchase counts as one entry, but it has to be through LE’s Amazon store.

Join the Literary Escapism Facebook page and you’ll get an additional entry. Make sure you leave a comment so I know that’s why you’re joining. Only new readers to the group will be considered.

For an additional entry, subscribe to Literary Escapism’s newsletter in the sidebar. This is for new subscribers only.

I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer. All entries must be in by midnight on July 25th.

  3. I’d like to enter for all of these great books. And I have this contest up at my blog already, the top post here: http://ladyvampire2u.blogspot.com/2009/07/blog-post.html

for Branded By Fire: I like werewolves. And I think it would be cool to see a Wolverine shape shifter hero.

for Seduce the Darkness: My favorite right now is No Words Alone by Autumn Dawn. And the author I would pick would be Angie Fox.

for At Grave’s End: I really like the vampire Mircea from Karen Chance’s Cassandra Palmer novels.

  4. Hi :)
Everyone should be reading MaryJanice Davidson’s Queen Betsy series.
Also P.N. Elrod’s Vampire Files with Jack Fleming :)
    twitter.com/RKCharron

  5. Branded by Fire – My favorite shapeshifter (couple) is Charles (and Anna) from P. Briggs “Alpha & Omega” series. I would love to see some shapeshifting bird.

Seduce the Darkness – Aliens are seen just further in the series, but they do exist in O.S. Card’s “Ender’s Game”? Anne McCaffrey has some interesting aliens in her novels, too. If I could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, it would be Ilona Andrews. She’s doing great job with all other living (and not) species.

At Grave’s End – There are a bunch of really nice :D vampires in Richelle Mead’s “Vampire Academy” and Chloe Neill’s “Some Girls Bite”(Chicagoland vampires series).

    Thanks for the contest

  6. # Branded by Fire – What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?

I have to confess. Seeing Sam in True Blood as a dog made me appreciate the smaller shapeshifting animals. So I’d have to say a normal house kitty cat shapeshifter would be interesting

    # Seduce the Darkness – What’s your favorite novel involving aliens? If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick?

Cheryl Brooks had an interesting aliens series. Any author, Mark Henry. I think he’d have a fun spin on aliens. Either him or Mario Acevedo. who does write some alien related stuff.

  7. Viriginia, have you had a chance to read Yasmine Galenorn’s Sisters of the Moon series? One of the sister, Delilah, is a shapeshifting Tabby cat.

  8. # Branded by Fire I’m partial to the cat shifters myself. I think a jaguar shifter would be particularly cool, as it is consistent with mythology.
#Seduce the Darkness My favorite novel involving aliens is Sheri Tepper’s novel Gibbon’s Decline and Fall. Actually, she has several great novels with aliens.
#At Graves End I’d say everyone should be reading the novels in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s Count St. Germain series, starting with Hotel Transylvania. The count was the first sexy vampire I encountered, and the research Yarbro does for this series is quite impressive.
    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  9. At Grave’s End – I was also going to mention (as has previously been) Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series ~ I know they are geared towards YA, but I’ve really enjoyed them and even pre-ordered the upcoming BLOOD PROMISE.

  10. Branded by Fire – What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter? My favirote is panthers or any cat and they make great Hero’s also.

Seduce the Darkness – What’s your favorite novel involving aliens? If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick? I have not read any alien books yet so I am not sure but I think Patricia Briggs would write a good alien novel.

At Grave’s End – Introduce us to a new vampire. We’re all familiar with Kisten, Bones, Jean-Claude, but who have we missed? Who should we be reading? Dante Baptist from The Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix. That series is my favorite dealing with Vampires.

  11. # Branded by Fire – What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?

I read a shape shifter of a Thunderbird in a Jory Strong book. It was so beautiful! I think because the history too they had of the meaning of the Thunderbird in the story and the mystery around it made it such a beautiful animal flying over to protect others! So loved that one!

I’d love to see and read a shape shifter of a Tiger. I will be soon with Pamela Palmer’s July Feral Warriors book. Just waiting for it to be out! LOL.

Thanks as always for a fun blog!

  12. Branded By Fire- After reading Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels books, I have an appreciation for lion shapeshifters *wink*. A shifter I would like to see would be a tiger.

Seduce the Darkness- I haven’t read very many books involving aliens, but my current favorite is The Host by Stephenie Meyer. The YA series Animorphs is pretty good too, although are not a new series. Any author at all? Hmm. Probably Christopher Paolini, because his Inheritence Cycle is fantastical, and I can see him pulling off a wonderful book (or even series) involving aliens.

  13. I’m a new subscriber to the newsletter.

My favorite shapeshifter is either dragon or wolf, but I also like the big cats. I would like to see polar bear shapeshifter hero.

My favorite book involving aliens would be Savor Me Slowly or Karen Kelley’s alien books. Also like Judy Mays. It’s really hard to think of alien books. Oh I like Lara Adrian’s books, they’re technically 1/2 aliens. Hmmmm.. If I had to pick an author to write about them it would be Shelly Laurenston, I bet those books would be hilarious.

  14. I’d love to win Gena Showalter’s book, I already have the other two, lol.
My favorite alien stories are probably Angela Knight’s Jane’s Warlord and Mercenaries novels. I think Kresley Cole would do a pretty cool job of writing aliens.

  15. I would like to put in for the first two, “Branded by Fire” and “Seduce the Darkness.”

    1) Now, as for my favorite shifter? I would have to say it’s a panther. After reading a short story by Sherrilyn Kenyon (“Winter Born”, part of her Dark-Hunter series) I’ve loved panther shifters.

    2) As for my favorite novel including aliens, well.. I actually haven’t read any! Though I think I would love for Katie MacAlister to write a novel, or even series, with aliens in it. She would be able to pull it off, and add in enough appropriate humor to have you chuckling for weeks.

Also, I posted about this contest on my blog. Though, I just started it a few days ago, so I don’t have many readers yet, mostly friends. Here’s a link to the post with your contest mentioned! http://glowsnoveladdiction.blogspot.com/2009/07/contest-offer-at-literary-escapism.html

    Thanks!

  16. Branded by Fire – What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?

Favorite- hmmm thats a hard one, I like them all! hee hee. I think the wolf shifter is my favorite, but I am open to all others. What would I like to see as a hero? I am in the mood for hilarity. How about a chihuahua

  17. Branded: My favorite shifter would be Delilah, aka Kitten, by Galenorn, or Mercedes by Briggs. I would like to see someone take on a were-hippo or were-giraffe.
Seduce: My favorite author who uses aliens would be Dara Joy (but I have to hide her covers since they are awful). The author I would like to see working with aliens is Alyssa Day.
Grave’s: I lover Christian Dante (Katie MacAlister) and Rio (Lara Adrian). Everyone should read Raven Hart.

  18. Seduce the Darkness
What’s your favorite novel involving aliens? If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick?

    1. Stephenie Meyer’s The Host.
    2. Michelle Maddox.
