Cleaning the Shelves Contest

I have way too many books sitting in my office and I can’t keep all of them (the hubby has been glaring at me since I’ve been asking for more shelves and he says no); but that’s good news for everyone else because I’m giving a couple of them away.  They are gently used, having been read once, but still in great condition.  Two of them are brand new releases and the third was released 6 months ago, so still fairly new.  So you ready to see what they are?

Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh (Psy-Changeling #6)
I found two copies at the grocery store when I went yesterday and snagged them both.  I’m keeping one (hel-lo…fabulous author here, have to keep one), but I’m giving the other one away.

Though DarkRiver sentinel Mercy is feeling the pressure to mate, she savagely resists when Riley Kincaid, a lieutenant from the SnowDancer pack, tries to possess her. The problem is not simply that he pushes her buttons; the problem is that he’s a wolf, she’s a cat, and they’re both used to being on top.But when a brilliant changeling researcher is kidnapped from DarkRiver territory, Mercy and Riley must work together to track the young man—before his shadowy captors decide he’s no longer useful. Along the way, the two dominants may find that submitting to one another uncovers not just a deadly conspiracy, but a passion so raw that it’ll leave them both branded by fire…

Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter (Alien Huntress #6)
I can’t keep all of the books I’ve been sent to review.

The war between otherworlders and humans changed Earth beyond recognition. It also saved Bride McKells’s life. Before, the gorgeous vampire was a target for every fanatic with a stake and a crucifix. Now she’s free to roam the streets—and desperate to find others of her kind. One man claims to have the answers she seeks. Devyn, King of the Targons, is a warrior and a womanizer, and he makes no secret of how much he wants Bride—and how dangerous he could be to her in every way.

An avid collector of women, Devyn easily seduces human and otherworlder alike. Until now. Not only does Bride resist him, but she leaves Devyn feeling something entirely new . . . a bone-deep need bordering on obsession. Her blood is the key to curing a vicious alien disease, but helping Bride uncover her origins will compel her to choose between electrifying passion and a destiny that could tear her from Devyn’s side forever.

At Grave’s End by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress #3)
This one is an ARC.  I have two copies and I really don’t need both of them.  The funny thing is, I don’t think its been read.  I won it through a contest and it arrived after it was released and I bought it that day.

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself – and Bones – from a fate worse than the grave.

Three books.  Three Winners.  Enter for each one or just for one, it’s your choice.  For each novel you want to try for, answer the corresponding question.

  1. Branded by FireWhat’s your favorite shapeshifter?  What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?
  2. Seduce the DarknessWhat’s your favorite novel involving aliens?  If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick?
  3. At Grave’s EndIntroduce us to a new vampire.  We’re all familiar with Kisten, Bones, Jean-Claude, but who have we missed?  Who should we be reading?

The contest is open to everyone, so everyone overseas can join in the fun as well.

As always, if you want more chances to win, you can post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer (in the same post). The more places you share it, the more entries you get.

For more entries, purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: myjaxon AT gmail DOT com.  Showalter, Frost and Singh purchases will go towards that book.  If you purchase an author besides these three, make sure you tell me which novel it’s going towards.  Each purchase counts as one entry, but it has to be through LE’s Amazon store.

Join the Literary Escapism Facebook page and you’ll get an additional entry. Make sure you leave a comment so I know that’s why you’re joining. Only new readers to the group will be considered.

For an additional entry, subscribe to Literary Escapism’s newsletter in the sidebar. This is for new subscribers only.

I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer. All entries must be in by midnight on July 25th.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi Jackie —

Don’t enter me for the contest — I’m all set for these authors — but I noticed that you didn’t list Lynn Viehl’s vampires, and that’s a great series. The first one is “If Angels Burn.”

You’ve also left out JR Ward and Lara Adrian, but I think everybody already knows about them!

  2. My favorite shifter has to be…. Smokey from Yasmine Galenorn’s D’Artigo Sisters series.
What animal…. how about a lemur…. my kids tell me buying books kill Zaboomafoo so yeah a lemur would be fun…

Fave aliens would have to be Mario Acevedo’s.
I would love for Katie MacAlister to write about some aliens more…

Vampire…. well there is Riley Jenson who is a half vamp half were… in the series by Keri Arthur
Who should we be reading? Definately Shiloh Walkers Hunters series…. the best one being Hunters Edge.

  3. What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?
I would like to see more bird shapeshifters. We see tons of cats and wolves and such, but so few eagles and hawks or even sparrows! I guess because running on four legs is more ‘human’ like than having wings and flying. That is why I liked Dolph from Xanth– he could be anything.

What’s your favorite novel involving aliens? If you could ask any author to write a novel involving aliens, who would you pick?
Favorite involving aliens. Probably My Babysitter is an Alien. I read that one as a kid and it was hilarious. I would like to see Piers Anthony write about aliens.

Introduce us to a new vampire. We’re all familiar with Kisten, Bones, Jean-Claude, but who have we missed? Who should we be reading?
Anyone who likes Vampires should read Anne Rice. Hers are classic and Marius is by far the best character (and vampire) ever created.

  4. Branded by Fire – What’s your favorite shapeshifter? What animal would you like to see as a hero shapeshifter?

I’d have to say my fave would be a large cat (I’m owned by 3 small ones) :-)

Hmmm the second part of that question is hard to answer though, I’ve read about wolves, jaguars, lions, cats – as in large housecats, tigers, swans….I know I think the only one I haven’t read yet is about a dragon.

  5. You’re missing a girl vampire! Molly Harper’s Jane from NICE GIRLS DON’T HAVE FANGS is pretty awesome. She’s a librarian, and can talk to ghosts!

Let’s not forget the hunky Gabriel, too! :D

  6. At Grave’s End – Introduce us to a new vampire. We’re all familiar with Kisten, Bones, Jean-Claude, but who have we missed? Who should we be reading?

Hmm….I’d definitely like you inroduce you to Michael Glass from Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series. Tall, blond and a guitar player….need I say more? Even though it’s YA I still highly recommend the series. Rachel Caine is one of my top 3 favorite authors.

    Thanks for the contest!!

  7. for branded by fire. I love the cat shifters. Shelly Laurenson Lions are great and I love Kenyons bears sounds like they’d be fantastic especialy those quads
for Seduced by darkness. I love Judy mays Alien series. there are only three and I wish she hurry up and write the next one.
i already have at grave’s end and its a good thing since i can’t think of any vamps you wouldn’t know about lol
    I subscribe to your newsletter

  8. Ooh la la! Would love to read that Nalini Singh book!!!!! Triple love her!

My favorite shape shifter is a cougar…although I havn’t read much about them. Love them as heroes or characters b/c their sleek, pretty, but very much a predator. :)

  9. Branded by Fire- my favorite shapeshifters are big cats, I’d like to see a panther or a lion.

  10. Branded by Fire – The only shapeshifters I remember at the moment are Red and Abra (wolfs) from The Better to Hold You & Moonburn. I like my shapeshifters relatively strong and frightening, so any hero would have to turn into an animal with those characteristics.

Seduce the Darkness – I think I haven’t read any alien books. The only one that comes the closest is Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair. Kel-Paten (hero) was half-machine. I would probably ask Sherrilyn Kenyon to write some alien novels :)

At Grave’s End – I don’t think this vampire (Chapel) is new to people, but I just recently read Be Mine Tonight by Kathryn Smith and I loved it. This is new series to me and I’ll definitely read the whole series at some point!

  11. Please sign me in =)

1- I like big cats shifters, The Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow has a very nice cougar shifter ^^

3- I would introduce you to the sisters of the moon series by Yasmine Galenorn, the series is about 3 half-human/half-fey sisters, one is a witch, one is a were-cat and the last one is a vampire.

    thank you!

  12. #2: I loved the aliens in Wen Spencer’s Ukiah Oregon series and the plethora of alien species in the Starbridge books by A.C. Crispin.

If I could get any author to write about aliens, I’d love to see what Don Callander or Daniel Hood came up with.

  13. I’m a new subscriber.
    As for the giveaway:
    1. Favorite shapeshifter is Clayton from “Otherworld” series by Kelley Armstrong. Shapeshifter I would love to see – any winged creature.
2.Alien books… I can think of only of Asimov’s Foundation series and Pohl’s Heechee series
3.Dimitri from vampire Academy (Richelle Mead)

  14. I am a new subscriber and interested inthe give away contest also. I would be interested in winning either BRANDED BY FIRE or SEDUCE THE DARKNESS if I was to be a winner. I would like to see more wolves as shapeshifter and I think Patricia Briggs would be great for an alien story. My choice for question 3 is fairly hard but I enjoy Sisters of The Moon byYasmine Galenorn susan L.

  15. Hmm my answers:

    1. Favorite shapshifter is Dracula into a bat. I’d like to see a hero shapeshifter as something ordinary like a squirrel.

    2. OOH! Strangers by Dean Koontz. I’d like to see a novel by MaryJanice Davidson about aliens! That would be fun!

    3. Betsy – MaryJanice Davidson’s vampire is awesome. She’s the Undead star.

  16. 1) My favorite shapeshifter is Riley Jenson from Keri Arthur Guardian Series. She is werewolf+! I would love to see a dragon hero shapeshifter.

    2) My favorite novel involving aliens is an oldie but goodie The Red Planet by Robert A. Heinlein. I would ask Anita Blake to write a novel involving aliens, it would be guaranteed bloody and sexy.

    3) A new vampire that I am following closely is Mira from the Dark Days Series by Jocelynn Drake. She is starting to get a lot of attention but the series is still very new.

I don’t think I am having deja vu BUT I’m pretty sure I read this post earlier in the week, but I have no idea why I wouldn’t have entered it then!

Thanks for the great contests and interviews. I love your site!

    Miranda

  17. My favorite shifter are cat shifters. And I would love to see a hero shapeshifer that is not your normal animal, something other than a wolf or big cat, just for a change.

  18. 1. Any kind of cat shifter are my favorites. :-)
    2. Gena Showalter has some great Alien books and so does Karen Kelley
    3. Acheron from Dark Hunters or Edward from Twilight. :-)

  19. I’d like to enter for a copy of Branded by Fire.
I haven’t read many shapeshifter books, but I think my favorite would be either a tiger or panther. So strong and beautiful!

  20. Branded By Fire – Favorite shifter – Jasha Wilder of Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd.
I like shifters that change into wolves, but big cats are good too.
Seduce the Darkness – Anne McCaffrey had some good ones.. Not sure who I’d like to see write some.
At Graves End – Julie Kenner has a YA series that has her usual goo writing and sense of humor. Book one is Good Ghouls Guide To Getting Even.

  21. I’d like to enter for Branded by Fire and Seduce the Darkness.

I like cats. Very much. All sorts of felines are very alluring to me. Therefore, anything shapeshifting into catlike animals are good in my book.
For one specific character; Zane in the Kiesha’ra Sequence by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.

With aliens, the only thing I’ve ever read is actually Gena Showalter (Enslave Me Sweetly) and a bunch of Swedish YA. So I’ll go with the Gena Showalter one.
Who could write about it? Hmm… Kresley Cole could do a great job with it I think, but I’d rather she’d continue her current serie…

Oh, two places I talked about it:
