Look Who’s Going to RT: Jax Garren

Jax Garren

Jax GarrenCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m Jax Garren, author of the Tales of the Underlight series (starting with How Beauty Met the Beast). I love learning new things, watching live performances, reading speculative fiction and anything to do with Norse mythology.I also love meeting people, so if you see me, say, “Hello!”

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The Tales of the Underlight are fairy tale inspired stories set in the punk-alternative community of Austin, Texas in the very near future. They center around two warring secret societies. Our heroes are a part of the Underlight, a US-based network of anarchists who have an underground base in Austin. The antagonists of the series are from the Order of Ananke, a cult dedicated to the Greek goddess of fate. Ananke pulls its membership from the world’s wealthy and powerful and focuses on controlling society from behind the scenes. The Tales of the Underlight have a little bit of magic, a little bit of weird science, lots of fast-paced action and a steamy romance at the center.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my first RT, and I’m really looking forward to it! I love conventions.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’m not speaking on any panels. As far as which ones I’ll attend, I have a tendency to see what I feel like at the time instead of planning ahead. Looks like there are a lot of good ones offered, so I’m happy to take suggestions! The main reason I go to cons is less about panels, though, and more about talking to people.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Long, light brown hair, big smile, possibly playing with her phone (feel free to interrupt me; I’d rather talk to you than play Sudoku or read my Twitter feed), and I’ll always have on my name tag. I’ll be at all the Carina events, the EXPO signing and Club RT (Wednesday at 1:30 and Friday at 5:00). I don’t plan on spending much time in my room, so I hope to meet you somewhere!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
