Look Who’s Going to RT: Kat Richardson

KatRichardsonCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m the author of the Greywalker paranormal detective novels. I live on a boat with a pit bull named Bella and a husband named Mr. Kat. I’m actually rather nervous in person, but I pretend to be terribly exciting online. ;) I’ve done some very odd things, including selling dead lizards, reading comics to the blind, and being personal assistant to a woman who didn’t exist. I like chocolate, whiskey, ferrets, motorcycles, and Jane Austen–but not at the same time.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
I currently have only one series which revolves around the “Grey”: the interface zone between the purely paranormal and the normal worlds. Here, ghosts, monsters, magic, and technology all exist in the same place–but not always the same time. Past time is layered and frozen but can be shattered and for a Greywalker–one of the rare few living “normal” people who can enter the Grey–these “temporaclines” can be secret routes to past and the present, as well as escape hatches when being chased by hungry monsters.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my second RT–I’ve had to miss a few since my first in Columbus. There’s so much to see and do, I think the smart attendee will pick a small number of “can’t miss” items and then spend as much time as possible making new friends at the parties, gatherings, and just hanging out in the bar. There are so many cool people to meet! And be sure to take time to visit the city–RT is always hosted someplace interesting!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’ll be teaching a writing workshop with Nicole Peeler on Wednesday, May1 at 1 pm called “The Monster Within!” about writing paranormal characters. On Friday at 10 am I’ll be on an Urban Fantasy panel called “Anything Goes in Urban Fantasy!” It should be a hoot! I haven’t even had time to look at the schedule and figure out what panels I want to see, but I’m sure there are some!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Oh… I’m not that distinctive anymore: I had to cut my hair. I don’t really stand out: 5′ 6″, middle aged, shoulder-length blonde hair streaked with natural silver-white, I do smile a lot and when I have nothing else to do I like to sit in the bar and find someone to talk to. I do look almost exactly like my bio photo, however.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
