Look Who’s Going to RT: Amy Evans

Amy EvansCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
Hi there! I am a writer, technology evangelist, and transmedia producer. I’ve been creating multi-platform mobile apps and social media games since the year 2000 when I started a company called HIPnTASTY. We created some of the earliest mobile entertainment experiences for companies and brands including Verizon, Lollapalooza and Marvel, among many others. I was invited to be on a panel at #RT2013 about creating story worlds, because that is my passion. My first book, Clicks, will be out in June and I serve as a host for NAlitchat and an advisor to Immersedition. I love dolphins, aliens and pugs, and sometimes I think they are all the same thing.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
My story takes place on Pinhold Island, home to endless summer, black sand beaches and the annual surf carnival; an ancient ritual turned pro sporting event that puts the worlds’ best surfers and swimmers against one another for the chance to live on the exclusive Island for a year. For the descendants of the ten families who founded the Island, the surf carnival provides a testing ground to see if they have what it takes to join The Guard, the elite surf rescue club that represents everything the Island and it’s people stand for. But as the competition heats up, the strongest swimmers start to go down. Suddenly the strongest generation of swimmers years are in comas caused by drowning, and nothing will wake them up.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
First time!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
SPECIALTY: Beyond the Written Page: The Art of Storytelling

Readers today want more than just what’s offered on the written page. They want to interact with characters, know how and where the author researches and writes and experience the stories they love in new and innovative ways. This workshop will explore all the ways stories can be told and expanded upon in a time when the landscape of storytelling is changing every day.

Date: Wed, 05/01/2013 – 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Panelist(s): Amy Evans, Amanda Havard, Kelly P. Simmon

I am excited to go to the panels on YA and NA, especially the latter. It’s such an exciting new category and it’s exciting to be a part of it.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’m short with dark hair and a big smile. I usually have some sort of seapunk element in clothing or accessories. And at events like these I get so buzzed from everyone’s energy I’m usually bouncing all over the place.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
