Dark Duet of Shadow Days

Since I heard about Google Reader’s utter demise, I kind of been in a funk where the news posts were. Then Jesse told me about feedly. I had set it up, but really hadn’t messed with it too much. Then a few different things and long story short, I’m back baby! Well, I’m going to attempt to at least one news post a week while summer is in session. But once school starts again, the news post should return to being three times a weekly (unless it’s a slow week, because it really does depend on the news cycle). *grin*

I’m still going through my feed, but here’s what I have so far. I’ve had this post started for awhile, so there’s some news that’s a little on the older side and some that came out yesterday. In either case, let’s do this! And because it’s been awhile, I’m going to through up a few more covers than I normally do. There are always fabulous covers popping up and I simply can’t post them all, so here’s a select few that have caught my eye. To see them all, head over to facebook, where I’ve added them to the July album for your viewing pleasure (I’ll be adding a ton more tomorrow night or later tonight since I’m writing this after midnight). Don’t forget to check out the new covers that came out in April and May.

I love Curran. Ilona Andrews has posted an amusing Twitter exchange involving Curran, Raphael and Jim.

Kelly Meding is giving us a snippet from the fifth Dreg City novel, Requiem for the Dead, which releases the end of August/early September.

Joey W. Hill has posted Chapter One from her upcoming erotic romance, Unrestrained, formerly Letting Go, which will be released in December.

Diana Pharaoh Francis is giving us a glimpse into her current work in progress. I’m not sure whether it’s her next Horngate Witch novel or something completely different (due to my utter lack in reading my feeds for too long).

JC Daniels has a snippet for her third Colbana files novel, Broken Blade, which will be released January 6, 2014.

Gollancz has posted the first chapter for Saladin Ahmed’s Throne of the Crescent Moon, now available.

Paranormal Romance has an excerpt of Robin Owen’s Enchanted Ever After.

Lauren Dane has posted an excerpt from her Petal, GA novel, Lost in You.

Orbit has posted a sample of Kate Locke’s latest Immortal Empire novel, The Queen is Dead.

Aching for some Broken Heart goodness by Michele Bardsley? If so, The Early Girl Gets the Blood Wolf is currently $1.49 for both Kindle and Nook, and features Ren Marchand.

Author Appearances:

So we all know Vampire Academy is being made into a movie, right? If you haven’t, then you must have found a really dank hole to hide in because even I’ve heard of it from under my rock. Anyways Richelle Mead spent some time in London, where they are doing the shooting, and she’s giving us a glimpse behind the scenes here and here. I don’t know about anyone else, but I really can’t wait to see the trailer and the movie itself when it comes out in February.

Dark Faerie Tales and All Things Urban Fantasy‘s annual Deadly Destinations has begun and boy do they have a lineup for you this time. There are a ton of great authors and giveaways planned throughout July, so make sure you head over and see what’s going on.

I was so excited to see that Colleen Gleason was going to be doing a spin-off of her fabulous Gardella Chronicles series. I’ve been told we won’t see either Victoria or Max in the new series, as the new series will take place 200 years in the future, but we will get to see Sebastian. *grin* The first novel, Roaring Midnight, which takes place in prohibition Chicago, just released.

CGleason-Roaring MidnightAmid the glitzy Age of Jazz, when gangsters and bootleggers control the cities, there lies another, more insidious threat….
the undead.

Macey Gardella is a typical young woman of the Roaring Twenties: she works a job, has her own flat, and loves to dance the Charleston. But when a mysterious man named Sebastian Vioget informs her she belongs to a family of vampire hunters, Macey is stunned and disbelieving.

Yet, strange and frightening things begin to happen, and when Macey comes face-to-face with one of the fanged creatures, she has no choice but to believe Sebastian. And when she learns his own soul depends on her willingness to carry forth the family legacy and hunt the undead, Macey capitulates and joins the fight.

As she learns more about her new life, Macey meets the handsome newspaper reporter known as Grady–who seems to know more about vampires than he should. And when he begins to ask too many questions, she has to juggle her strong attraction to him with the need for secrecy.

Slipping into speakeasies and sampling bootlegged whiskeys, dodging gangster gunfire and trying to keep her nosy landlady from finding the stakes in her flat, Macey Gardella must navigate through a world of stunning violence, passionate romance, and dark betrayal…

Barnes & Noble has a Summer Reading Program for kids where they can earn a free book just by reading 8 books. There is a list of which book your child can receive, but it seems to be geared for kids in grades 1-6, so not something for the younger kids. Damn. BUT if you do have a child under 5, make sure you check out Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Children under 5 can receive a free book every month until their 5th birthday.

So that’s it for now. Yeah, I know….not a lot of meat that isn’t being recycled, but I’m sure there’s someone out there who hasn’t seen all of it yet.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
