Lotsa of Visuals

Check out what Tez Says found. It’s the cover art for Lauren Dane’s Coming Undone (January 5, 2010) and Carrie Ryan’s The Dead-Tossed Waves (March 9, 2010).

I’ve heard of a new anthology called Bitten by Cupid that will include Lynsay Sands, Jaime Rush and Pamela Palmer and is slated for December 29, 2009. The only gossip I’ve heard about it so far is that the Sands story is about Tiny, a PI in the Argeneau series, but that’s it.

Interviews:

  • Jeaniene Frost, author of Destined for an Early Grave, at Bitten by Books

Did you love that YA Fantasy novel?  If so, make sure the world knows about it.  Submissions for the 34rd Bookworms Carnival are due this Friday to Bella at A Bibliophile and Bella is looking for those YA fantasy novels we need to know about.  To submit a review, simple email Bella at bellalee.mc at gmail dot com.

Remember when I was talking about Orbits new contest for the worst Science Fiction name ever?  After 350 entries, they picked their top five.  Want to know what they are:

  • The Thing with the Glass Buttock
  • Rise of the Fallen, Book Seven, The Pre-Antepenultimate Battle
  • A Stain Upon The Vastness
  • Across a Trembling Sea the Cyborg Fairies Dance
  • An Old Dragon, A Dead Witch, and a Fat Guy: The Third Book of Stories that Go Nowhere.

Check out what Rachel from Enchanted by Books gave me. It’s the One Lovely Blog Award! She is such a sweetheart. I get to pass this along to three other blogs and they are: Tez Says, Patricia’s Vampire Notes and Amberkatze Reviews.

Now we get to vote for the one we think is the worst.  So head over to the voting booth at Orbit and help them pick.  The winner is going to have the worst SciFi cover done up for them and I can’t wait to see what it is going to look like.

Kmont has a few new covers over at her site as well.  I can’t post them all, but she has them for Kim Harrison’s Black Magic Sanction (which we have seen), Kim Lenox’s Darker than Night and Diana Rowland’s Blood of the Demon.  If you’ve been waiting for these covers, hop on over to Lurv a la Mode.

Another new cover, check out what the gods gave Maria Snyder. Inside Out is due to release August 2010 and is the first novel in a new YA series by Snyder.  It should be interesting.  Interested in the blurb?

Speaking of new covers, check out what SciFiGuy found (via Michelle’s Book Blog). It’s the cover for the third Phoenix Chronicles novel, Apocalypse Happens, by Lori Handeland, which comes out November 3, 2009.  Doug also found the title for the fourth novel, which will be Chaos Bites and will be due out Spring 2010.

Authors Don’t Need Friends by Russel Smith
Here’s another discussion topic for you.  I recently saw this article at the Globe and Mail and was kind of shocked. Smith is talking about social networking, but he makes one offhand comment that kind of throws me.  He says:

The question of how to market books – particularly fiction books, which few people want to read – is one of the most hotly discussed in publishing

The quote in of itself isn’t that bad, but when he says “particularly fiction books, which few people want to read“, made my eyes go wide.  Now I was under the impression that sales of fiction novels have gone up lately and granted there has been speculation as to why; but to come out and say that there are few people who want to read them?  This really doesn’t focus on any one genre either.  We’re talking everything that doesn’t pertain to nonfiction (which is kind of dull to me personally).  I’m almost wondering if he meant nonfiction books, which few people want to read, but I’m not sure.  Either way, I am having trouble believing this guy and what he has written.  It almost sounds like he is taking a very elitist viewpoint on blogging and condemning it without really doing any research.  I’ll be honest, I don’t think I impact any one authors sales.  I don’t have that big of an ego.  However, I do believe that while I haven’t raised their sales, I’ve helped spread the word.  The more people who know about a book, the more it’s discussed and if a book isn’t being discussed, I’m not interested.  I want to know what others think and it’s blogging/social networking the way to do that?

CONTEST ALERTS:
Penguin USA is giving away five copies of Level 26 by Anthony Zuiker with a Penguin Comic-con ’09 gift bag and five copies of Dracula: The Undead by Dacre Stoker.  There’s not an ending date posted, but it looks like it’s running with the 15% sale which goes through August 7th.  I would have your entry in by then.

Anya Bast has thrown together a contest over at the Bradford Bunch. She’s giving away a surprise basket full of goodies that could include: paperbacks, candy and bath yumminess. There isn’t an ending date posted, so I’m going to guess that if you get your name in by this weekend, you should be okay, but don’t hold me to that.

Lauren Dane is giving away a copy of What Happens in Vegas…After Dark.  The contest is only for a day, so you better go and get your name in if you want a copy.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I was just sitting here thinking that has to be pirated and probably should not be shared on this site. And while its tempting to download it, I can’t bring myself to do it unless its sanctioned by Ms Kenyon.

  2. Hiya Jackie!

Just a note, the cover up at Amazon isn’t the final. They changed a few things and I hope to have the new one up soon. In the mean time, I’ve got it at my website.
