Guest Author: Christy Gissendaner

Christy GissendanerI am excited to welcome author Christy Gissendaner, who is celebrating the release of One Hot Knight.

Stupid curse!

Yves Sucat was a Crusader trapped in a canine body…until a beautiful twenty-first century dog groomer offered the missing link to break his spell. But Regina Patterson was no fluffy-headed female who would instantly melt at Yves’ silvery seduction. The more time he spent with the tender-hearted blonde, the less he was able to keep his paws—hands!—off of her.

Regina was much more comfortable with dogs than men, and the stunningly handsome – stunningly male – knight who now shared her apartment was no exception. She’d hoped to find a man as loyal as the pooches she pampered day after day, but would Yves’s broken curse end with her own broken heart?

Literature as an escape?

Literature as an escape?

I can buy that, especially since as I write this post, I’m currently holed up in the hospital. Despite the worry over obvious health issues, my main concern were the things I’d left unfinished at home. As I’m gearing up for a new release and was making substantial progress on my WIPs, I hurt my soul to be away from my books.

So what do I do? First, I take my Nook along on the trip to the emergency room. When I get admitted and realize exactly how non-functioning my Nook really is, I send the hubby to fetch my computer. Thanks to the Wi-Fi gods and my own determination to see things through, I’m finally able to get back to my personal escape…which is writing.

As a young girl, I wrote to avoid boredom. I’m a quick reader, so when I ran out of reading material, I would create my own. Inspiration came from everything…my friends, the music I listened to, celebrity crushes. You’d never know what I’d write about next. This habit carried me all the way through high school and college. After graduation, I finally tried my hand at becoming a published author. I succeeded…somewhat. After a few stumbles, I finally got my first book e-published. It would eventually be released in mass market paperback, but the company filed bankruptcy soon after. My kind of luck.

The journey toward becoming a published author is a rocky one. I’ve got horror stories that would make aspiring writers cringe. (So I’ll keep them to myself.) But if you’re like me, determined no matter what life throws at you, you’ll make it. Just keep pounding those keys and eventually you’ll find your way. Just hopefully not in the hospital like me!

But not everything is doom and gloom. To lighten the mood, I’ve brought along a sample of my latest release. I hope you enjoy! Meanwhile, I’ll be over here rocking the butt-less gown and celebrating my twenty-first book release. I think there’s a story to be had here…

Excerpt from One Hot Knight

She’d lost her mind.

That was the only excuse. Why in hell had she agreed to bring Yves home with her for two weeks? She didn’t even know the man. Not to mention he was cursed with some ancient voodoo that may or may not morph him back into a canine.

Oh well. It was much too late for recriminations now. A nine-hundred-year-old knight had plopped down on the couch in her living room like he owned the place.

Gripping the bathroom sink with both hands, Regina leaned forward and studied her reflection in the mirror. A towel was wrapped turban-style around her damp hair. Her face was cosmetic-free and glistening from the moisturizing, age-rejuvenating lotion she’d just rubbed on it.

Was that another laugh line?

Regina prodded the side of her eye and grimaced. In one day, she’d gained an entirely new wrinkle while a centuries-old man resided in her living room as fresh as a daisy. The world was so unfair! She was twenty-eight and perilously close to looking thirty, while Yves didn’t look a day over her own age.

Her gaze dropped to the reflection of her body in the steamed mirror. At least her body was still pretty decent. Due to the treadmill, she kept in shape as much as possible. Her breasts could be a bit perkier perhaps, but the rest of her was okay.

Why was she even studying her body? She knew what she looked like. Just because she had an attractive man in her apartment didn’t mean she needed to ogle herself.

It wasn’t like she was going to jump in bed with him. Yves was her good deed for the year. She would help him break the curse, and then he was out of there. No strings. No sad good-byes. Certainly no sex. He was too big, too bold, and too outspoken. Definitely not her type.

Who was she kidding? He was everyone’s type.

Something about the way he moved, the curious gleam in his eyes when he looked at her, the delicate way he touched her even when he was manhandling her was intriguing. She practically melted at the memory of how she’d felt pressed up against him earlier.

“Regina, get a grip. You can’t be attracted to him.” She wagged a finger at herself in the mirror.

Her reflection was no help.

“He’s just an overgrown ape of a man you can’t wait to be rid of, remember?”

This time, her reflection turned thoughtful.

“He’s a dog for goodness sakes! Literally.” The corner of her lips turned down.

The mirror was cool against her skin as she dropped her forehead against it. “Oh boy, I’m in trouble.”

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
