Gothic Winter and So It Was

I love having some kind of image on each of my posts and since I don’t have any new covers to showcase, I went looking for some artwork.  My latest find this week is Asaenath and she has some pretty spectacular work.   The current piece showing is called Gothic Winter and I have to say that I really like the stars.  There’s just something about them.

Have you checked out the bookworms carnival yet?  A Bibliophile’s Bookshelf has the current edition and it’s all about YA Fantasy. There is quite a collection of novels that were submitted, so it’s definitely worth a look if you’re itching for something new.  Bella also has an interesting discussion question if anyone wants to participate.

I’m still trying to figure out this steampunk genre, but I have to say that Romance Book Wyrm has a great article about it.  If you’re like me, I would head over and check it out.

Interviews:

Have you been looking for a great place to find free downloads for some of those hard to find novels?  I just found out about Suvudu’s free library and they have quite a collection of novels: including Dark Fever by Karen Marie Moning, Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian and Blood Engines by TA Pratt.  I’m definitely going to be browsing more through that site.

Melissa Marr has announced the title to the fourth Fae book!  The new title will be Radiant Shadows, but alas, no news on a release date.  I can’t wait to see what happens between Set, Aislin and Keenan.

I have turned into a Vampire Academy junkie and Richelle Mead has posted an excerpt for the latest novel, Blood Promise.  There’s still a month before it comes out, and there’s some spoilers involved, but it’s something.

The SciFiGuy has a great Weekend Update and you really should check it out.  In an effort not to repeat everything Doug says (because I was sorely tempted to do that), here is what caught my attention, but please go check it out because there is a ton of other great stuff as well.

  • Jaye Wells has named the sequel novel to her Red-Headed Stepchild.  The new title is The Mage in Black and will be available on April 1, 2010.  The third novel is tentatively called Green-Eyed Demon, but there isn’t a release date for that as of yet.  I’m sensing a color theme here.
  • Great news for everyone eagerly awaiting Boneshaker by Cherie Priest.  It was announced over at Clockwork Century that it will now be released in September – a whole month earlier than planned.
  • John at Grasping for the Wind is compiling a second edition to his SF/F/H Book Reviewers Linkup Meme. If you’d like your review blog to be included, be sure to stop by and fill out a submission for his database before August 16, 2009. The information and form can be found: HERE. • There is a new steampunk anthology in the works.  The Shadow Conspiracy is being published by Book View Cafe and SciFiGuy has more info if you’re interested.
  • Diana Rowlan d has named the third Demon series novel.  There’s no release date yet, but Promise of the Demon will be the next in line.
  • Reminder to vote in Orbit’s the most ridiculously bad high-concept SFF book cover in the universe design concept.  If you can’t remember the title, check out my post from last week.

This is another piece I found in my search of new artwork.  This piece is called And So It Was by Gothic Fall.  I’m not sure what the artist’s name is, but everything at Gothic Fall looks fabulous.  You should definitely check it out.

So I heard that Katie MacAlister announced the title of the fourth Silver Dragons novel via Facebook and Twitter, but I must’ve missed it.  However, she gave away the info in her newsletter so I am happy to say that the fourth book will be called Love in the Time of Dragons.  It has a release date of May 2010 and will be introducing a new dragon sept – the Light Dragons.  I still haven’t read the second novel, Up in Smoke, so I really need to get caught up.

Contests:

  • Patricia Briggs is having a HUGE contest to celebrate her forum’s 2nd anniversary.  She’s giving away a ton of books and the contest starts tonight.  The only catch, you need to be a member of her forum.  The Smart Bitches have more info.
  • Ann Aguirre is giving away an ARC of Carolyn Jewel’s Indiscreet.  Contest ends tonight.
  • Jocelynn Drake is giving away a copy of Speak of the Devil by Jenna Black. Contest ends August 1st.

I will have the winners from my “Cleaning the Shelves Contest” posted later today, so make sure you check back for that.  I’m still cleaning the shelves and I will have another contest starting some time this week.  Also, I have never heard back from the winner for Rachel Vincent’s Prey, so I’ll be drawing a new name for that.  Plus the winner for The Tsar’s Dwarf will be announced as well.  Lots of winners to be named later today, so I’m going to aim at getting it posted tonight, it may be tomorrow now that I see how many will be posted.

Just a heads up, I’m going to be playing with how I search the various sites I do, so the news might be a little weird until I get it figured out.  My RSS feed is starting to get huge, so I’m going to take a look at using the Google Reader more, but I’m not sure how that is going to work.  With that in mind, don’t be surprised if I’m a little silent this week.  The next edition of the Escapist Newsletter goes up on Saturday, so I may save a lot of my news for that.

Do you ever get that feeling that you’re missing something and can’t think what it is?  I’m having that problem right now.  I feel like there should be more to say, but I really don’t have anything.  Oh well, enjoy today’s news!
